Hennepin Healthcare is looking for a Administrative Nursing Supervisor (part-time) to work Night shift. A $8,000 hiring incentive is available for eligible external candidates (current employees and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible).
SUMMARY
Within the context of Hennepin County Medical Center’s Patient and Family Centered Care Model, and under limited supervision, the Administrative Nursing Supervisor provides administrative oversight, nursing leadership and operational leadership in the absence of administrators and managers. This role has a key role in facilitating patient flow processes throughout the organization. In addition, has the authority to activate and coordinate internal disasters.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs hospital operations in the absence of administrators and managers
- Serves as a key contact for emergencies or facility concerns
- Supervises and coordinates care delivery activities and staff in the absence of the unit Manager
- Directs patient care staff in the consistent application of standards, policies and procedures as defined by the unit, department and organization
- Facilitates optimal patient flow and patient placement processes
- Leads the bed (strategy) meetings for planning
- Problem solves with the Patient Placement staff and charge nurses to minimize delays
- Collaborates with medical staff to resolve patient flow issues
- Activates Internal Capacity Alert in collaboration with Patient Care Director
- Makes final staffing decisions for next shift. Works directly with the Resource Management Center staff to give them direction on staffing needs
- Escalates issues to Patient Care Director on call, Administrator on call and other leaders as appropriate
- Rounds on units each shift to review unit activity and assists charge nurses with problem solving
- Coaches and mentors staff on principles of patient and family centered care, quality and safety standards, and achieving optimal outcomes
- Provides feedback to Managers on the performance of personnel in their departments
- Meets with patients and/ or family members who have concerns in the absence of the manager or patient representatives and follows up on unresolved issues
- Serves as resource person to department and medical personnel as well as social service agencies, government and regulatory agencies
- Interacts with media as needed with the assistance of the Medical Center’s Public Relations department
- Performs related work as requested/ required such as improvement projects, collecting and collating data, training/ education, preparing communications to hospital leadership
- Activates or participates in disaster responses. Provides onsite direction for other emergencies within the organization’s emergency management plan
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing
- Two (2) years of professional nursing experience

- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience
-AND-
- Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Minnesota
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Certification in Nursing Administration
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
- Skilled in overseeing the efforts of individuals within the department
- Ability to effectively involve department staff in the application of quality measurement and improvement tools
- Skilled in fostering a positive workplace culture and building inclusive workplace teams
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and systems and provide instruction on complex processes
- Capable of assisting managers with decisions and activities
- Effective use of all Windows-based applications such as Word, Excel and Power Point
- Ability to appropriately prioritize and carry-out work
- Ability to comfortably and effectively facilitate meetings and feedback sessions
