Staffing responsibilities
- Able to supervise all staff and have a system to report issues that may arise during shifts to managers, and liaising with patients and medical professionals to ensure quality care is given.
- Able to oversee and completing delegation assignments for all unit and/or facility ensuring adequate coverage for CHU and Residential Unit.
- Able to ensure staff engagement and safety of consumers.
- Capable of reporting concerns and issues to the Administrator on call and the Director of Nursing.
- Enforce all policies/practice changes.
- Ensures staff are competent to perform the job and are completing it to the best of their abilities.
- Conducts disciplinary actions as needed.
- Able to verbalize performance appraisals for staff and report outcomes to the Nurse Coordinators.
- To attend staff meetings, as needed, to disseminate important information.
- To recognize when to addresses staff regarding consumers, facility, and programmatic needs.
- Applies AltaPointe and BayPointe policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
- Knowledgeable in emergency situations such as bomb threats, fires, active shooter situation, and facility elopements.
- Acts along with plans that are in place by AOC and administrator.
- Functions as resource regarding legal aspects of nursing policies and procedures and regulations governing the hospital.
- Maintains current knowledge of situations which may affect overall functioning of the hospital.
- Functions as a patient advocate.
Clinical responsibilities
- Reviews and assist staff in completing incident reports for unit and/or facility.
- Ensures seclusion and restraint policies and process are followed.
- Problem solves issues arising in the course of the workday.
- Effectively communicates on a regular basis with staff, consumers, families, internal departments and external providers to meet needs.
- Ensures delegations are completed and the staffing mix is based upon educational preparedness and clinical competence of staff.
- Oversees admission and discharge process to ensure prompt turnaround times and quality of care during time of transition.
- Ensures quality care is provided throughout consumer’s length of stay; oversees the coordination of patient care to ensure consumer’s needs are met and policies are followed.
- Conducts hospital rounds with staff to direct, demonstrate and evaluate delivery of consumer care and to ensure safety throughout the facility.
- Actively assists with hospital cost containment by accepting responsibility for time management and use of unit supplies.
- Keep list of necessary supplies and ensures safety and operation of medical and office equipment.
- Oversees integrity and cleanliness throughout the facility.
- Conducts safety drills and monitors for compliance reporting concerns to DON per hospital policy.
- Adheres to professional code of ethics.

- Maintains requirements for license renewals and attends required in-services.
Current RN license to practice in the State of Alabama; 3-5 years’ behavioral healthcare experience with at least 2 years being in a management position; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present information to a group of people; ability to operate a computer (electronic staffing and incident reporting, Word, Outlook) and telephone system; ability to withstand continual deadlines in spite of interruptions; ability to organize and prioritize a busy workday; sensitive to confidential matters; uses judgment in carrying out work; ability to work independently; and demonstrable knowledge of the following:
- Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in child/adolescent and adult populations
- Knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing care
- Knowledge of growth and development of child/adolescent consumers as related to intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of their development
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology especially terms associated with child/adolescent and adult psychiatric care
- Familiarity of psycho-pharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications with the child/adolescent and adult populations
- Knowledge of behavior management and crisis intervention
- Knowledge of educational methods appropriate to child/adolescent and adult populations
- Knowledge of family dynamics and parenting issues.
- Knowledge of effects and treatment of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect issues
- Knowledge of cultural diversity
