RN House Supervisor - Helen Keller Hospital, Patient Care Services, PRN, Shift Varies - Huntsville Hospital Health System

Directs and supervises nursing service functions and activities during assigned tour of duty.  Coordinates concerns of other departments after hours, in the absence of directors.

• Administers and coordinates activities of nursing department, promotes cooperation of staff to achieve department objectives and maintain good department relations.
• Exercises good judgment in making decisions and notifying the appropriate person when unusual situations arise during tour of duty.
• Evaluates staffing needs and assigns personnel to meet needs.
• Provides assessment of nursing care by making rounds and identifying problems or needs for improvement.
• Applies effective communication in communicating with personnel, patients, families, visitors, and physicians to assure safe, consistent provision of care.
• Applies knowledge of standards of Nursing Practice and Hospital policies in implementing and maintaining standards and policies.
• Prepares required documentation for disciplinary process.
• Evaluates employee performance and productivity – provides feedback. Initiates and follows through with personnel actions.
• Attends necessary meetings and gives input to important decisions.

Education:   

Current Alabama RN license or a current RN multi-state license.   BSN or associated field preferred.        

Experience: 

Five years of experience in a head/charge nurse capacity and/or demonstrated leadership abilities.

Additional Skills/Abilities:

BLS, ACLS and PALS, certification or eligibility/capability to certify within 90 days. Capable of handling varying and unpredictable situations;  Emergency or crisis situations;  Capable of  performing emergency care;  Available to be occasionally subjected to irregular hours.  Works overtime as required.  Occasional stress due to multiple calls and inquiries.  Capable of handling exposure to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness) and contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.  Able to read, write and speak the English language.
