The Risk Manager collaborates with Director of Corporate Risk Management and business unit leadership. The Risk Manager provides guidance and direction in developing a culture of safety and risk mitigation strategies and identifying opportunities for system improvement. This position collaborates department leadership on risk management strategic planning, goal setting, department evaluations, and the implementation of strategic initiatives. The Risk Manager develops and maintains systems within the organization to detect, monitor, prevent, organize measure, investigate, report, and manage patient events, incident reports, and other indicators of potential patient harm. This position promotes a just and reporting culture for sustainable system improvement
Responsibilities:Proactively evaluate areas of organizational risk based on internal assessment and external benchmarking and
implement strategies and policies that promote patient and staff safety. Identifies areas of vulnerability and
directs the development of strategies to enhance compliance.
Promote the occurrence reporting process, including trending and reporting results, identifying problem-prone
areas, and facilitating prevention initiatives.
Direct the investigation of all potentially compensable events (preventable adverse events).
Provides strategic oversight of risk management committees with accountability for distributing bidirectional
organizational communication with the Health Care District as appropriate.
Provides strategic oversight of proactive and reactive adverse events, including root cause analyses and failure
mode effects analyses regarding the facilitation process, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the
effectiveness of process changes.
Disseminate lessons learned and process improvement plans.
Risk Manager
Facilitates the reporting, investigation, analysis, and corrective action planning on medical errors and near
misses.
Maintains updated knowledge of state and federal regulations.
In conjunction with clinical staff and medical staff, directs and coordinates risk and safety initiatives.
Manages the production, analysis, and presentation of relevant safety/risk data and activities to leadership, key
individuals, committees, and leaders and guides opportunities for improvement.
Proactively educates leadership, clinicians, and staff regarding the basics of risk management and their role in
ensuring that patients are not harmed during care delivery.
Provides Risk Management education for new employee orientation and annual staff competencies.
Collaboration with clinical staff and service managers participates in the monitoring, reporting, and
improvement activities related to clinical care, safety and risk initiatives.
Meet regularly with leadership to provide detailed reports on all serious incidents, potential claim events, and
risk-related issues.
Shares risk management data and collaborate with appropriate departments and staff regarding the risk
management assessments, plans, and monitoring.
Respond to sentinel events and other serious occurrences and provide expert advice on the management and
reporting such events to administrative and clinical leadership and staff.
Prepares and submits reports as required by regulatory, federal, and Florida law.
Prepares, submits, and presents Risk Management summary reports as assigned and promotes maximum
confidentiality by limiting access to such information. Ensure maximum protection from discovery of all
claims/potential claims materials.
Reviews and revises Risk Management Plan annually and submits plans to Risk Management Leadership and
appropriate Committees and Board for approval annually.
Seeks consultation from Risk Management Leadership regarding various aspects of risk, adverse incidents, and
Education:
Associate's degree or Associates Degree in Nursing. required. Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN)
preferred. Advance degree preferred. Hospital experience preferred.
Experience:
Two (2) years’ experience in risk management preferred. Two (2) years’ experience at the Registered Nurse
level preferred.
Certification:
State of Florida, Registered Nurse license preferred.
Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred.
Licensure:
State of Florida, Registered Nurse license preferred
