Job Summary:
The Rig Shop Manager role at West Marine is crucial to meeting the sales and operational objectives of the rigging department, particularly through effective planning and coordination of all Satellite Rigging Locations. Key responsibilities include enhancing rigging sales, interpreting technical diagrams, and interacting with customers to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment. The manager is also tasked with resource optimization, determining whether a job is completed in-house or at the production facility based on lead times, and overseeing quality control on all products before delivery to customers. This role is aligned with West Marine's mission of serving boaters by meeting their needs, completing boat projects, and contributing to enjoyable days on the water. Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Lead efforts to recruit, interview, hire, and train new team members, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles.
• Supervise daily department workflows, keeping operations smooth and efficient.
• Provide constructive, timely performance evaluations to support staff development and address areas for improvement.
• Manage corrective and performance action as necessary, in line with company policies to maintain a professional and compliant work environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Recommend and sell tailored rigging solutions to meet both retail and wholesale customer needs.
• Oversee staffing, production, and scheduling, including coordinating with external providers as needed.
• Partner with store groups to build awareness and train Crew Members on rigging offerings and order processes.
• Ensure all products meet high-quality standards and are suited to their intended applications.
• Actively engage in product education and certification to enhance rigging knowledge and expertise.
• Exercise discretion in handling customer complaints to maintain satisfaction and loyalty.
• Work with the team to meet the sales goals of the business unit.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, supporting sustainability initiatives throughout West Marine.
• Assist with fulfilling cut-length orders for both in-store and Omni-channel customers.
• Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays, based on business needs.
• Take on other job-related tasks as assigned to support the overall business.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, coupled with outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Demonstrate strong sales and customer service acumen, contributing to revenue growth and customer satisfaction.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

• Effective supervisory skills, including task prioritization, delegation, and leadership capabilities.
• Able to perform efficiently in a fast-paced, occasionally high-stress environment.
• Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software for project management and communication.
• Ability to interpret rigging diagrams, measurements, and terminology to assist customers and coordinate workflow effectively.
• Demonstrated expertise in splicing, rigging installation, and maintenance in both shop settings and on marine vessels.
• Must provide transportation to various worksites as needed.
• Knowledge of and ability to perform safe procedures for working aloft on marine vessels.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 5+ years of experience in rigging and management, demonstrating both technical and leadership expertise.
Physical Requirements:
• Continuous standing and walking throughout the retail space.
• Ability to wear and communicate through a headset continuously.
• Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, crawling and twisting.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle
• Occasionally operate equipment, including forklifts.
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds to shoulder height unassisted frequently.
Other Requirements:
• Must be at least 23 years old
• Must maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
• Willing to submit to a criminal background check
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and DMV checks per the West Marine Driver Fleet Safety Program
