Position Summary:
The revenue cycle coordinator is responsible for providing support to the organization by assisting with revenue cycle initiatives and by providing value-added support to revenue cycle leadership. Assignments and oversight for the position will come primarily from the CFO. This position works with revenue cycle management to assist in developing and reinforcing effective business practices within pre-registration, admitting and registration, health information management, billing and collections, and customer service.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, information technology, or related field (or an associate degree with equivalent experience) is preferred.
- Experience:
At least 3 years of progressive responsibility within healthcare business operations is required.
Exposure to accounting, financial statements, and revenue cycle operations is required.
Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) is strongly preferred.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Aids in the department’s annual planning process for establishing strategic objectives and performance measures used to gauge progress.
- Performs analysis and conducts financial opportunity assessments to identify opportunity assessments to identify opportunities to improve revenue cycle performance.
- Provides support for the development and execution of initiatives to improve policies, procedures, and systems throughout all revenue cycle departments.
- Investigates, conducts, follow-up, and solves complicated and high-dollar claims issues.
- Aids in tracking key performance indicators at the departmental level, as well as conducting root cause analysis to determine the source of performance issues.
- Develops and maintains revenue cycle scorecards and project reports and conducts manual audits.
- Provides frequent status updates, reports, and project summaries to administrative and executive-level leadership, creates and delivers presentations as needed (e.g., building a business case, providing progress updates, demonstrating results).
- Creates, administers, and facilitates regulatory training programs for revenue cycle staff.
- Assists in developing and administering revenue cycle training and education programs, as well as ongoing professional development opportunities such as internal certifications, career ladders, etc.
- Cultivates internal relationships at corporate, facility, and developmental levels to gain stakeholder support and encourage participation in revenue cycle initiatives.
- Manages, coordinates and champions revenue cycle initiatives across the organization to optimize workflows and support the long-term goals of the revenue cycle.
- Performs regular market research to stay on top of industry best practices, technological innovations and strategies to remain competitive.
- Collaborates with other leaders to roll out new initiatives or technologies, update performance measures and tracking, and institute educational opportunities for revenue cycle staff.
- Conforms and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
- Carries out other assignments or special projects as directed.
Standards of Performance:
- Serves as liaison between Administration and Department Directors regarding revenue and compliance issues.
- Complies with all CRHS privacy policies and procedures including those implementing the HIPAA Privacy rule.
- Recommends methods of reducing operating costs and increasing volume.
- Discusses management problems, department budgets and major purchase priorities, policies and procedures, legal matters and others as necessary for effective decision-making.
- Evaluates revenue cycle in all areas, including the review of technology and automation, to identify opportunities and implement strategies to improve revenue cycle performance in accordance with system-wide initiatives.
- Develops detailed project plans, budgets, and documentation including policies and procedures, functional specifications, user and resource requirements, schedules and status reports for assigned application systems and/or projects.
- Coordinates the training of staff on process improvement techniques, including a plan for deployment of training to staff.
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of the current trends and developments in healthcare including compliance with regulations, standards, and directives regarding governmental/third party agencies and/or third-party payers.
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills in communicating with co-workers, physicians, and other members of the healthcare staff to promote efficiency and teamwork.
- Participate in education as required through mandatory department service and continuing education as measured by education and attendance records and maintenance of professional licensure.
- Demonstrates adherence to CRHS Standards of Behavior as measured by co-workers and supervisor observations.
- Demonstrates reliability as measured by compliance with CRHS time and attendance policies.
- Demonstrates professional conduct by maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA standards as measured by valid complaints given to the Supervisor or Director.
