About the Job
Down South CaJJun Eats is looking to hire a new Restaurant Cook who will be responsible for preparing delicious cajun/comfort dishes for our guests. Our new cook will be responsible for preparing dishes based on recipes adhering to our house standards while maintaining a high level of quality, consistency, and timeliness. They will be working with fresh, high-quality ingredients and ensuring they are prepared in a safe and hygienic environment. To be successful in this job, you will need a thorough experience with hot and cold food preparation. Prior experience in a related position is preferred.
In addition to these duties, our new cook will be collaborating with the kitchen team and management to develop new recipes and menu items that meet our standards and appeal to our clientele. Operating kitchen equipment safely is also key, as is the ability to report any malfunctions or breakdowns to management.
Restaurant Cook Responsibilities:
- Prepare outstanding meals for our customers.
- Weigh, measure, mix, and prep ingredients according to recipes.
- Steam, grill, boil, bake or fry meats, fish, vegetables, and other ingredients.
- Check food and ingredients for freshness.
- Arrange and garnish dishes.
- Work well under pressure and within the time limit.
- Ensure that kitchen area, equipment and utensils are cleaned.
Restaurant Cook Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience with Seafood, Cajun, and/or Comfort food required.
- Prior experience in related food and beverage service and food preparation positions.
- Thorough experience with hot and cold food preparation.
- Good working knowledge of accepted sanitation standards and health codes.
- Ability to use slicers, mixers, grinders, food processors, etc.
- Able to handle work in a fast-paced environment.
To be considered for this position, our candidates must have a minimum of [5] years of experience in a similar position, and be familiar with [southern style/cajun] cooking techniques. Down South CaJJun Eats was founded by twin brothers Jahmaal and Jermaine Dumes in the Spring of 2017. While Studying at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX they decided to take a leap of faith. Originally from Beaumont, TX they felt a tremendous part of their lives were missing in Austin. And that was Crawfish!
Coming from a family of cooks, they’ve always dreamed of starting a restaurant in their home state. With the help and support of family and friends, they were able to make this dream come alive.
