Hours: 36 hours / week, varied weekdays
Rotation: Every 4th weekend / Holidays
General Summary
Provides respiratory therapy modalities to patients at an intermediate practitioner level according to established standards and practices. Functions as the intermediate clinician in one or more functional areas including, but not limited to, critical care, NICU, pulmonary function, general care, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, skilled nursing/home care and polysomnography. Acts as a resource for Clinical Respiratory Therapist I. May require specialized skills depending on unit assignments.
Essential Functions:
Administers respiratory therapy modalities as per the physician, clinical practice guidelines and/or clinical pathway. Charts treatment, response and progress.
Performs patient assessment and develops a comprehensive pulmonary care plan.
Collaborates with the physician to manage the initiation, maintenance and weaning of patients requiring ventilatory support.
Modifies therapy to maximize efficacy of the therapy regimen.
Maintains active and support communication with the patient regarding progress, problems, home programs and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
Provides quality care consistent with appropriate policies and procedures, quality assessment program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Assumes clinical leadership role for assigned core process area.
Serves as a role model/mentor for other staff, new employees and students. Demonstrates characteristics defined as: Willing to teach, as illustrated through interaction with staff that show positive interaction in teaching situations with co-workers; can identify and use resources to solve problems and answer questions. Uses this ability not only to solve problems but to help others; Identifies and participates in Process Improvement initiatives; Exhibits positive behavior and models this behavior in interactions with others; Helps build self-confidence in others by providing constructive feedback in a positive way that enhances the learning process; Committed to sharing knowledge through role modeling and teaching; Accepts accountability for Clinical Respiratory Therapist II requirements.
Common Expectations:
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
Enhances professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Courses and Training:
Courses/training consistent with core discipline. Upon Hire Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Failure to maintain the criteria for Clinical Respiratory Therapist II described below may result in removal of Clinical Respiratory Therapist II status and decrease in pay as determined by Leadership.
