Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist assesses, plans, organizes, and administers respiratory programs that improve lung function, as well as provide patient, family and staff education related to respiratory and cardiopulmonary issues. This role ensures compliance with all State and Federal Regulations and reports to the Director of Rehabilitation Services.
The ideal candidate has a current NJ Respiratory Care Practitioner license and is a graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program with at least 2 years of experience as a respiratory therapist. The therapist must have a genuine desire to help others.
This is a per diem position that includes 2 weekends a month.
Responsibilities
- Screens all new admissions for respiratory concerns
- Interviews, examines and assesses patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders
- Develops patient treatment plans in accordance with physician orders
- Monitors and records the progress of treatment
- Educates patients and caregivers on use of equipment and performing of treatments
- Order oxygen and associated equipment for residents upon discharge
- Ensures that respiratory equipment (CPAP, BiPAP, Trilogy, etc.) is set up and functioning properly
- Cleans equipment and changes filters according to manufacturer guidelines
- Performs daily rounds on oxygen rooms to ensure proper storage and adequate supply
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Current NJ Respiratory Care Practitioner license required
- Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program
- At least two years of relevant experience as respiratory therapist required
- Ability to utilize electronic medical record and Microsoft Office programs
- Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed
