JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Pulmonary Wellness Specialist (Respiratory Therapist)
Department: Tyler Heart Institute (THI) Cardiopulmonary Wellness
Reports to: THI Assistant Director - Cardiopulmonary Wellness
Hire date: Prefer by August 1, 2024 (flexible)
Position: Full-time
Days/Hours: Monday Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
EMR: EPIC
Position Summary:
The Pulmonary Wellness Specialist (PWS) reports to the THI Assistant Director - Cardiopulmonary Wellness and plays a vital role in the multidisciplinary outpatient Cardiopulmonary Wellness team. The PWS is responsible for overseeing all aspects of pulmonary rehabilitation patient care, including patient selection, assessment, treatment planning, exercise therapy, patient education, and outcome measurement. Assures that all patient treatment plans are individualized, completed, and signed according to department and payor regulations. Collaborates and communicates effectively with the multidisciplinary team, physicians, patients, and patients families for optimal patient and program outcomes. This role ensures adherence to departmental and regulatory standards while promoting optimal patient outcomes and program effectiveness. Additionally, the PWS supports the THI Assistant Director in staff training, program development, updating policies and procedures and maintaining EMR documentation standards. EPIC
The PWS also conducts and oversees all pulmonary function tests and education including HAST, spirometry, pulmonary stress tests, pulmonary devices, and smoking cessation. Assures that that ATS guidelines and other regulatory guidelines are followed for patient selection, testing procedures, documentation, and billing. May conduct 12-lead EKG test. Oversees all aspects of ordering, handling, filling, and management of liquid oxygen tanks and assures that supply meets demand in department.
Experience Required:
" Five or more years of experience in Respiratory Care, with at least one year in an acute care setting.
" Three or more years in outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation, including individual assessment, developing all phases of the individual treatment plans (ITP) according to regulations, providing individual and group education, and collecting and documenting outcomes.
" Two or more years of experience in pulmonary function testing.
" Proficiency in facilitating patient group education sessions.
" Familiarity with pulmonary devices, oxygen delivery systems, and medications, with the ability to instruct patients effectively.
" Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
" Fluent in Spanish preferred.
Education:
" Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program.
" Bachelor s degree in a health-related field; advanced degree preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
" Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
" Respiratory Care Board of California RCP license.
" American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/ACLS certification required.
" Pulmonary Rehabilitation Certification (AARC or AACVPR) required.
" Smoking Cessation certification preferred.
