Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist is a professional member of the healthcare team who provides skilled respiratory care to the residents.
Qualifications:
o Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
o Respiratory Therapist certification is listed as Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Illinois.
o Current licensure in good standing
o Evidence of one year of skilled experience within the past two years.
o Possesses thorough working knowledge of anatomy, general medical conditions, general therapies and interventions.
Requirements:
o Develops plan of care based on assessment data and standards of care.
o Performs therapy modalities as ordered by physician and according to training and experience.
o Performs therapy modalities as ordered by physician and according to training and experience.
o Operates all equipment according to policies, procedures, and guidelines.
o Differentiates between patient and equipment problems and intervenes appropriately
o Documents and communicates all patient concerns during shift.
o Manages a safe environment
o Draws arterial blood gases and interprets arterial blood gas and oximetry results.
o Performs tracheal and nasopharyngeal suctioning including the instillation of pharmacologic agents.
o Selects, assembles and checks the equipment for proper function, operations, and cleanliness. This includes mechanical ventilators, CPAP systems, oxygen systems, manual resuscitators, suctioning equipment and tracheal tubes.
