POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides Respiratory Care treatments and services to patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Currently enrolled in an AMA accredited educational program for Respiratory Care or recently graduated from such a program and not yet credentialed.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
•
Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
•
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
•
Ability to establish effective working relationships and clearly and calmly communicate in English both verbally and in writing with patients, medical staff and the public.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
•
Greets patients and explains procedures and provides clinical input regarding pulmonary and respiratory services into the patient’s overall plan of care working collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
•
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, conducts therapeutic procedures to achieve maintenance of an airway, removal of pulmonary secretions, ventilation, aerosolized pharmacological agents, oxygenation and lung expansion therapies and evaluates patient response.
•
Collects, reviews and evaluates clinical and treatment information and documents accurately in the patient’s record maintaining confidentiality of position acquired information.
•
Initiates and conducts emergency techniques including CPR and transporting patients as required.
•
Selects, assembles, checks and repairs equipment for proper function, operation and cleanliness.
•
Sterilizes and disinfects equipment following established infection control procedures and practices.
•
Assists physician in bronchoscopy and tracheostomy tube changing following standard protocols.
•
Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.
