Job Summary
The Plumbing Manager for the Residential Home Services Department is responsible for overseeing operations, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and maintaining operational efficiency. This role involves managing a team of union apprentices and technicians, coordinating daily work, maintaining customer satisfaction, and ensuring adherence to safety standards, codes, and company policies. The Manager is also tasked with fostering a productive work environment, supporting team development, and collaborating closely with other departments to meet company objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Skills and Qualifications
- Team Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead and manage a team of union techs and apprentices, providing clear direction, motivation, and support to achieve department goals.
- Conduct regular team meetings, provide training on technical skills and safety protocols, and maintain a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Monitor performance, ensure compliance with union standards, and address any performance issues or grievances in coordination with the division manager, HR and union representatives.
- Operations Management:
- Coach and cultivate a selling tech model where technicians are accountable to daily, weekly and monthly sales and profitability goals.
- Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure timely completion of residential home service jobs, while meeting quality and customer satisfaction standards.
- Develop and maintain efficient job schedules, ensuring proper resource allocation and workflow for optimal profitability and productivity.
- Coordinate with dispatch and customer service teams to manage work orders, job prioritization, and emergency service calls.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all plumbing work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and audits to maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability, addressing any violations or unsafe practices promptly.
- Customer Service and Quality Assurance:
- Serve as a point of escalation for complex customer issues, working to resolve any complaints or concerns effectively.
- Conduct periodic quality checks on completed work to ensure compliance with company standards and customer expectations.
- Work closely with customer service teams to gather customer feedback, assess service satisfaction, and implement improvements.
- Budgeting and Inventory Management:
- Assist in preparing and managing the department budget, monitoring overhead, downtime and expenses to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Oversee inventory levels of materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring adequate stock for project needs.
- Coordinate with suppliers for ordering and pricing, managing relationships to secure favorable terms and timely deliveries.
- Planning and Reporting:
- Prepare reports on department performance, job completion rates, safety incidents, and other key metrics for management review.
- Participate in strategic planning for department growth, workforce needs, and new service offerings.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and support company goals.
Skills and Qualifications
- Master Plumber License preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in residential plumbing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience working within a union environment is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with job scheduling software (CRM), Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with industry-specific technology.
- Valid Driver's license required.
- Previous experience driving a large box truck, cargo van, or oversized vehicle highly preferred.
