Residential Life Shift Leader
Schedule per week: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00am - 4:00pm
Location: Paterson, NJ
Job Summary:
Supervise Residential Life staff and client outside appointments. Ensure a clean and orderly physical plant and take a leadership role in maintaining a safe, disciplined and caring environment on the unit. Be available on-call 24/7 in the absence of the Assistant Director of Residential Life.
Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe, disciplined and caring therapeutic environment and maintain direct supervision of all clients
- In collaboration with the RLD director assist in covering the responsibilities of Residential Life Supervisor in his/her absence from the agency.
- Have a thorough knowledge of CC-Straight & Narrow’s Policies & Procedures and Clients’ Handbook and enforce the rules and structures contained therein.
- Provide guidance to and assign specific tasks to RL Associates on the shift, filling in, when necessary, to ensure their completion.
- Cover RL Associate shifts when understaffed.
- Provide crisis intervention and help de-escalate incidents as they occur
- Participate in client interventions, case conferences and Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDT) as needed.
- Coordinate clients’ sick calls in coordination with the medical department
- Ensure clients attend Outside Appointments (OSAs) as scheduled and that a search is conducted upon their return according to policy.
- Ensure that daily client count sheet is prepared by RL personnel.
- Schedule and supervise clients’ daily housekeeping tasks during assigned shifts.
- Monitor and order all supplies for the program
- Conduct multiple daily checks of clients’ rooms and all other rooms and areas on the unit to see that they are in order.
- Complete rounds of the program every 30 minutes and ensure all clients are accounted for
- Report and investigate any issues and/or damages to the client’s rooms, classrooms and other common areas via the Straight and Narrow online repair system.
- Coordinate with food service personnel in advance of all activities that require changing a mealtime or reduce the number of meals required. Ensure Food Service department has all dietary restrictions and alternatives of clients that have received approval through the medical department.
- Ensure that new clients are greeted and oriented appropriately by all RL Associates.
- Wear assigned personnel uniform while on duty and ensure that all personnel follow the Dress Code Policy.
- Prepare Client Count Sheet, as assigned.
- Document client infractions/merits in the EHR system
- Ensure that all Clinical appointments are followed as per schedules
- Assist in facilitating Educational/didactic sessions for clients
- Ensure all family visits are conducted in a professional manner and adhere to applicable policies & procedures.
- Ensure daily tasks are completed before the end of the shift and endorse task to the incoming shift.
- Immediately informed the shift supervisor if the following personnel rations are not met on assigned shift -one (1) staff per twenty-four (24) client ratio during waking hours and one (1) staff per thirty (30) during sleeping hours, and two staff members at all times.
- Follow all Electronic Health Records (EHR) policies and procedures
- Complete a Departmental Orientation within 30 days to include but not limited to Emergency procedures, DMHAS and Reportable Events.
- In coordination with the Recreational Personnel ensure that all scheduled Recreational Activities are facilitated. Provide clients with approved non-prescription medication when requested in accordance with Policy & Procedure for “Non-prescription Medication kept on the Units.”
- Crosstrain as assigned in all Straight and Narrow Programs
- Work location and schedule assignment may be subject to change based on agency need.
- Facilitate and document sessions as assigned included but not limited to psychoeducational and H&I groups sessions
- Provide Transportation using company vehicles only to clients for various appointment
- Drive Company Vehicle to different locations for job tasks as assigned
Requirements:
Associate's degree with one (1) year supervisory experience, working towards CADC/Recovery Specialist with. High school Diploma with ten (5) years’ experience working in the field of addiction and Mental Health preferred. Have CPR/First Aid certification or achieve CPR/First Aid certification within thirty (30) days from the date of hire. Valid driver’s license from the state of residence and a clear driving record.
