About the role
The Primavera Men's Shelter provides up to 90 nights of shelter to approximately 60 men on a nightly basis. The program is essential to single men experiencing homelessness. Services provided to participants include meals, showers, hygiene products, some clothing, and case management, with the objective of assisting participants in obtaining more permanent housing and income from either employment or mainstream benefits.
The Resident Team Member (RTM) works to create and maintain a peaceful, supportive, and safe environment, models sound decision- making, positive personal accountability, and encourages paths toward self-sufficiency and positive outcomes. The successful candidate will be most comfortable working as part of a team, will be outgoing, enthusiastic, and personable, driven to achieve results and enable the success of others, and conscientious about following guidelines and established parameters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalency
- 1 year of experience working with people experiencing mental health concerns, substance use, housing insecurities, or lived experience.
- Proficiency with computer systems and software, including database programs.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends as needed and be flexible to meet shelter needs.
- Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and proof of current registration and insurance coverage to attend off-site meetings and travel between locations.
- ServSafe Certification, or ability to obtain.
- Mental Health First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain.
- First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain.
- Level 1 Fingerprint clearance card, or ability to obtain.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual – English/Spanish
- One year of experience working with people in a shelter setting, or trauma-related work experience, or direct behavioral health services.
- Extensive Knowledge working with people experiencing addiction or mental health issues.
- Extensive Knowledge of community services and ability to coordinate.
- Knowledge of ServicePoint (HMIS) system to easily transition into position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by leadership)
- Interact with participants, volunteers, and fellow employees in a professional manner, reflecting Primavera's Guiding Principles of integrity, respect, accountability, compassion, and leadership.
- Assist with orientation process and welcome participants in the residential setting, providing guidelines, answering questions, ensuring adherence to rules, encouraging positive behaviors, responding to issues and problems, and ensuring a professional, respectful, and safe environment.
- Cross-train in all Residential Team Member duties, as outlined in this description.
- Provide coverage for and assistance to other Residential Team Members as assigned.
- Provide support in daily Shelter operations including laundry, food, maintenance, cleaning, and perimeter checks.
- Complete random rounds a minimum of once every hour.
- Accurately complete required paperwork for any shift, including Unusual Incident Reports
- Keep the daily log of participant information and shelter happenings up to date with relevant and thorough information.
- Carry out Shelter guidelines and maintain a peaceful environment at all times.
- Communicate any participant concerns to the Program Manager, Resource Specialists, and other Residential Team Members, and assure a shift note is sent out at end of each shift.
- Participate in debriefings at each shift change.
- Complete required data entry in a timely and accurate manner.
- Issue receipts for donations as appropriate.
- Allocate participant beds logging information in the shelter database.
- Recruit participant volunteers for the chore list.
- Train, assist, and supervise participant volunteers in completing their assigned chores.
- Work as independent leaders with volunteers and participants.
- Supervise participant volunteers at all times.
- Answer the telephone, taking messages as appropriate.
- Safeguard the inside and outside areas of the shelter.
- Prepare coffee and setup by 6:00am during the week, 7:00am on weekends, assist with breakfast prep and other assistance needed in the kitchen.
- Ensure meal prep and kitchen cleaning procedures are followed when working in the kitchen.
- Prepare and serve lunch on days when it is not provided by volunteers, using leftovers as much as possible.
- Supervise the delivery of meals by meal teams. Support meal team volunteers, and assist as needed.
- Provide supervision and support to any meal team volunteers, support groups, and/or scheduled activities on site.
- Send monthly volunteer team hours to volunteer coordinator.
- Enter data in the monthly volunteer meal team log. Provide servers with disposable gloves and proper kitchen utensils.
- Provide servers with disposable proper sanitary and safety guidelines.
- Manage shelter supply inventories in order to ensure cost-effective practices are followed.
- Date and properly store all donated and/or purchased foods using a first-in, first-out procedure.
- Follow standard health and sanitation procedures.
- Clean kitchen and prep area after each meal and other times as needed in compliance with Shelter cleaning procedures
- Complete sanitary and disinfection process in highly touched areas every 2 hours.
- Complete random building inspections with the Program manager and other Resident team members.
- Assist with linen rolls and totes every day/night.
- Medication distribution, contraband screening, and update logs as needed.
- Conduct searches of items at front door, responsible for participant re-entry, search of bags, persons breathalyzing, orientation, locker run, clothing run, and roll ups, breathalyzing, checking bags, orientation, locker run, clothing run, and roll ups.
- Attend bi-weekly employee 1:1's, monthly staff meetings, monthly house meetings, quarterly All employee meetings, and other training sessions and meetings as requested
- Adherence to and demonstration of Primavera's guiding principles of integrity, respect, accountability, compassion, and leadership.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of issues facing people who are homeless.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including participants, volunteers, and other shelter employees.
- Empathy, persuasiveness, and orientation to enable others to succeed.
- Cross-train in all duties and shifts to meet the needs of the shelter.
- High structure and detail orientation, balanced with drive to accomplish timely results and ability to adapt to change.
- Working knowledge of emergency procedures, including fire evacuation, participant medical and behavioral concerns.
- Ability to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Comfort working with individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
- Residential, multiple-bed shelter environment indoors, with internal office, common eating, and sleeping areas, moderate noise levels, and requiring outdoor surveying of property in a desert climate.
- Ability to work at desk workstation and throughout common areas, standing, bending, stooping, and ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- If driving a Primavera vehicle, must possess a valid Arizona driver's license and submit proof of a clean driving record.
