Research Technician - Metis Foundation

About the Job
The Metis Foundation is seeking a Research Technician with expertise and a broad background in animal research efforts. In addition to assisting with animal studies, they will be involved in laboratory biological assays. This person will assist with data analysis for publications and presentations.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Assist in animal laboratory surgical research projects to include routine catheterizations in reference to established protocol/proposal while adhering to federal, state, and local rules and regulations
2. Document and maintain all laboratory work performed on research protocol/proposal for the PI/director in accordance with best practices in local policy
3. Conduct laboratory work in accordance with GLP, the Institute Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS)
4. Schedule and coordinate animal work with the vivarium and research personnel
5. Assist with experimental data collection and analysis for publications and presentations
6. Monitor the health of animals for impact on research and communicates concerns to the veterinarian
7. Maintains lab, storage areas, and treatment rooms when in use
8. Clean, sterilize, and calibrate instruments and equipment used in the surgical OR Practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods
9. Request supplies, chemicals, and equipment utilizing the systems approved by the site
10. Maintain SOPs
11. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Experience of animal handling, surgical experience (e.g. cannulation, tunnel, etc.), drug injection/administration, and physiological monitoring for small animals (e.g. mouse and rat) is highly preferred
· Knowledge of Supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control
· Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms and progress
· Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
· Ability to understand and follow procedures
· Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
· Ability to use cleaning equipment and supplies
· Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and/or equipment
· Knowledge of OR, pre-op and/or post-op procedures
· Ability to establish dosages and administer drugs to animals
· Ability to maintain research records
· Knowledge of laboratory operations and/or procedures
· Knowledge of sterile procedures
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Minimum Education/Training Requirements:
· High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience in Animal Research or directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, which may include directly related college-level student practicum.
· Candidates must be able to pass a favorable adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries
Compensation: Annual base salary range $50,000.00 - $55,000.00
Work Environment:
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
- Work may involve exposure to unusual environmental elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
