Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technicianin the laboratory of Dr. Adam Ratner, Division Director of Pediatric Infectious Disease at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. A two-year commitment is strongly preferred. The Ratner Lab is a translational research group with a mission to decrease morbidity and mortality of pregnant women and children by developing new knowledge, treatments, diagnostics, and vaccines for infectious diseases. Combining bacterial and host genetics, whole-genome and whole-transcriptome profiling, new animal models of colonization and infection, and epidemiological studies, the lab's recent work has focused on Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus) as a leading cause of neonatal sepsis.
Job Responsibilities:
- • Lab Duties - advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. In addition to those duties expected of an Research Technician, Research Technicians may be expected to coordinate the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment. Additionally, is expected to assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and records results of experiments.
• Participates and performs other related duties as required.
• Judgment/Decision-Making - Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.
• Communication/Relationship with Others - Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of Medical Center. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information. Communicatesideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner.
• Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.
• Assist in Developing Procedures - Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Maintains and updates technical knowledge.
• Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or biology, chemistry, physics, or related sciences with relevant laboratory experience. Effective oral and written communication skills required. Specific skills required include bacterial and mammalian cell culture, animal models of infection, laboratory animal handling and colony maintenance, bacterial transformation, and molecular biology. Specific responsibilities include designing and carrying out experiments, data analysis, and routine laboratory maintenance. Assisting other members of the laboratory and participation in organizational and logistical aspects of laboratory management are also required. Lab managerial duties include coordinating the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment, supply purchases, and research coordination. An excellent command of English and the desire to work both independently and within a dynamic team are prerequisites. Experiences in quantitative methods including statistics are strongly encouraged. Effective oral and written communication skills required.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $50,000.00 - $55,120.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
