Research Technician with Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN)
Assist biological and medical scientists. Conduct and monitor experiments, collect data and samples, make observations, and calculate and record results, set up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment. May analyze organic substances, such as blood, food, and drugs.
The Research Technician is part of the Cell and Developmental Biology Department within the School of Medicine Pod 2 at Vanderbilt University and is an individual for assisting in general lab tasks around the lab. This would include various experimental activities such as cell culture, microscopy work, ordering, and animal husbandry.
Responsibilities of the position include: (1) performing wet lab experiments, which include working with human patient-derived material and aseptic survival surgeries on small animals, (2) performing colonoscopy and endoscopy procedures on small animals, (3) performing chemical perturbations on small animals (oral gavage, injectable), (4) maintaining medical record keeping and handling patient privacy information, (5) safely processing human (and mouse) tissues, (6) analyzing human pathology scans.
Job Requirements: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field. Position requires 4 years of related experience, which must include some experience in each of the following skills: Processing fresh human tissues biopsies while abiding by safety and institutional protocol standards; Aseptic surgical techniques; Endoscopy techniques; Injection techniques; Knowledge in medical records; Knowledge in patient privacy in data handling and record keeping; and Knowledge in human tissue pathology interpretation.
