GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs lab duties and experiments in support of science laboratory. Position requires familiarity with lab operations and laboratory equipment. Knowledge of cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry and animal experiment is required. The individual will be expected to achieve the ability to function independently and perform multiple tasks daily. This position does not supervise others but will help orient and train lab members.
**RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Animal colony management for mouse colonies. Animal husbandry to include weaning, pairing, tail snip, and inventory maintenance. Data entry into established database and spreadsheet for management of animal colonies; inventory control of animal numbers and UCAR accounts.
+ Histology, including but not limited to, the processing of tissue, embedding, and staining as needed; Assist with general laboratory assays including flow cytometry, cytokine assays, and cell culture.
+ Assist in animal experiments. Experiments to include non-recovery tissue harvests and perfusions; Assist in preparing for animal experiments and setting up new experiments as needed; Responsible for global animal laboratory maintenance and cleanliness. Perform experiments and maintain support to PI.
+ Genotyping of transgenic mice by PCR. Assist and perform routine biochemical and molecular biological experiments (protein isolation, DNA/RNA isolation, gel electrophoresis). compliance issues such as IBC, EH&S, Fire Safety, and UCAR inspections. Maintain computerized inventory, MSDS, and datasheet records.
+ Maintain laboratory notebook, analyze data, prepare summaries of ongoing experiments, assist in preparation of manuscripts and grants by making slides and figures. Assist with laboratory compliance issues such as IBC, EH&S, Fire Safety, and UCAR inspections. Maintain computerized inventory, MSDS, and data sheet records.
+ Responsible for placing orders in a timely fashion and maintaining up-to date inventory of laboratory chemicals, equipment, and general supplies.
+ Responsible for writing up protocols, and instructing new laboratory members in proper research techniques and proper use of equipment.
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in science (biology or biochemistry or related major) required
+ Animal handling and mouse-based research experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
+ Macintosh and PC computers, tissue culture hood and incubators, thermocycler for PCR, centrifuges and rotors, autoclave, pH meter, water baths, -80 C freezer, microscopes, microtome and digital imaging equipment. Dissecting microscopes; automated stainer. Knowledge and experience using computer software
+ programs including Excel, Word and FileMaker Pro is expected.

**Pay Range**
Pay Range: $ 16.49 - $ 23.08 Hourly

Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._
