GENERAL PURPOSE:
This position is being offered in the Yan Laboratory in the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute. We are looking for a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to assist with animal and cell-based experiments. The individual will be expected to achieve the ability to function independently. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task are required. All necessary training will be provided. This position has no official supervisory responsibility.
Primary duties will include: carrying out experiments related to ongoing studies of cardiovascular function. The results of these experiments will be analyzed and used to generate manuscripts for scientific journals and grant proposals.
Experience: Prior experience with cell culture; common molecular biology techniques (PCR, western blots); tissue harvesting; tissue staining; imaging; animal handling, data analysis are preferred.
**RESPONSIBILITIES:**
+ Following training, will perform molecular biology techniques and experiments in support of a research lab, including but not limited to preparing cultured cells for immunostaining, q-PCR, or western blotting experiments.
+ Independently perform tissue harvests from adult mice and mouse primary cell isolation (adult cardiomyocyte, SMC, etc).
+ Troubleshootprotocols to improveoutcomes;suggestmodification in method and technique as needed. Perform experiments and maintain support to faculty member for grant period.
+ Maintain laboratory notebook, analyze data (utilize ImageJ and Excel software for image analysis, quantification, and interpretation of experimental results.), interpret and present data effectively, prepare summaries of ongoing experiments.
+ Perform the technical training for new lab members including students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab. Assist current lab members with experiments including animal handing and breeding, mouse genotyping, western blotting, data analysis, etc.
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
+ Associate’s degree in appropriate discipline (preferably biology) required.
+ Or related field plus 3-4 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
+ Previous work experience in a research lab highly preferred.
+ Mac, PC, and MS Office. Pipettes, gel apparatus, incubator shaker, centrifuges, -80 freezer, Barnstead Water Units, NuAire Bio-safety cabinet, dissecting microscopes, various surgical instruments, PCR machine, down draft tables, perfusion apparatus, CO2 euthanasia stations, ventilated rodent housing racks preferred.

**Pay Range**
Pay Range: $20.92 - $29.92 Hourly
_The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._
