Research Technician II
The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at the University of Tennessee is searching for a research technician in our plant virology laboratory. The positionwill regularly conduct research including, but not limited to, molecular virology based approaches and will perform a variety of laboratory operations. Position will assist in the planning/design of experiments and establishment of protocols, development of conclusions and presentation of findings and may work independently in researching, modifying, and developing methodology to the overall research objective.The research in the laboratory is focused on viruses of plants and those of plant parasitic nematodes.This position is grant-funded and continued employment is contingent upon funding.
- BS in molecular biology or other related fields with at least 2 years laboratory experience in molecular biological techniques. Education may count as experience on a year for year basis. MS in related fields is preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and considerable drive and motivation.
- A qualified candidate must be able to assist in performing RNA and DNA isolation, PCR, plasmid DNA isolation, restriction enzyme digestions, gel electrophoresis, gel extraction,preparation of media and buffers, plant care, and other research-related tasks as needed.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
