Job Description Summary

This technical position will support the work funded by National Institute of Drug Abuse grant which focuses on the neurobiological underpinnings of addictive drugs using animal models.





Job Description


This technical position will support the work funded by NIH grants which focus on the neurobiological mechanisms underlying substance use disorders using animal models. An emphasis is placed on translational studies aimed at identifying and developing novel therapeutic approaches to treating substance use disorders. The foundation of these studies are drug self-administration studies (cocaine, opioids and nicotine) in rats. Prior experience working with rats is preferred. Experience with animal models of addiction, stereotaxic brain surgery, and/or behavioral pharmacology is a plus. Familiarity with cellular and molecular techniques including RT-PCT, immunohistochemistry, RNAscope and Western blotting is also desirable.




Responsibilities



+ Running drug self-administration experiments; use of i mmunohistochemistry, RT-PCR, RNAscope and fluorescent microscopy methods


+ Managing the lab (ordering supplies, cleaning, etc.)


+ Data analysis, written and oral presentation of findings


+ Perform rodent surgeries


+ Other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned





QualificationsA Bachelor's Degree and 0 to 1 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Prior experience working with rats is preferred since the position involves performing all aspects of experiments including drug self-administration, rodent surgery and daily behavioral testing. Familiarity with cellular and molecular techniques including RT-PCT and Western blotting is also desirable.
