Responsibilities
**General Purpose** :
Provides direct research and teaching support at the professional entry level. Under general guidance and with latitude for exercising independent technical judgment, performs research related activities limited in scope and complexity in the Division of Nephrology, for Dr. Yumei Earley’s Laboratory. The position is to investigate the neural mechanisms of hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. This position manages day-to-day operations in the Feng Earley laboratory by serving as a point of contact for students and postdocs, ordering supplies, and maintaining laboratory space and equipment. The lab technician will also assist Dr. Feng Earley with cardiovascular phenotyping experiments, including echocardiograph and telemetry studies.
**Responsibilities:**
Contributes to the design and conducts experimental research and investigations to explore and support lab goals, grant commitments,
scientific discovery and/or development. Incumbents may perform the full range of duties, including but not limited to immunohistochemistry, western blotting, PCR, managing mouse colonies, genotyping, uploading/updating information to the online mLIMS database
Records, interpret, and conduct analyses and scientific data by using standard methods and develops modifications of standard methods to meet special situations.
Participates in formulating research methods and suggesting options for improving quality and recommending solutions. Participates in computer database design and utilization and research/data analysis and suggests future improvements in data measurement.
Develops research documentation, such as protocols, reports, reviews, publications, manuscripts, and/or summaries. Responsible for the operation of a specialized laboratory equipment. Orders supplies, submit documentations regularly to finance team and overall maintain the order and cleanliness of the lab. Maintain documentation of Lab Safety in compliance with University policy requirements.
Teaches laboratory techniques and instrumentation procedures to students and laboratory technical support staff; and counsels them on technical problems.
Searches literature for referencing technical problems involved in research projects; writes procedures; prepares charts, graphs and tables: and assists in the preparation of materials for publication. Disseminate research findings to internal and external audiences; presents at weekly lab meetings.
Keeps abreast of trends in field molecular biology and physiology, or related fields by reading journal articles, attending laboratory meetings, and attending relevant University seminars. Contributes to preparing publications, presentation, and proposals related to laboratory research; searches literature for relevant material, drafts experimental procedures and results.
Other projects and duties as assigned.
**Qualifications:**
Required:
+ Bachelor’s degree with major course work in field of assignment
+ 1 year of related work experience involving direct assistance to researchers; or equivalent combination of experience, training and education.
Preferred:
+ Familiarity with MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel);
+ Generate and organize large sets of data, strains, and
+ plasmids, and should be familiar with all aspects of a laboratory to
+ effectively help organize the lab;
+ Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed;
+ Excellent organization skills to help coordinate several projects, and the skills to help train inexperienced personnel;
+ Qualified applicants will be motivated individuals with a strong background in experimental mouse handling and mouse colony management who can work independently..

**Pay Range**
Pay Range: $46,987 - $65,790 Annually
_The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._
