The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Research Security Administrator position at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI). The Research Security Administrator identifies opportunities for process improvement and implements and manages initiatives to enhance procedures related to deployment and utilization of digital platforms for human subject research.
NYSPI, established in 1895, was one of the first institutions in the United States to integrate teaching, research, and therapeutic approaches to the care of patients with mental illnesses. Research at NYSPI covers a wealth of subjects ranging from basic neurobiology to clinical, epidemiological, child psychiatry, and services-related studies. In addition, there are a wide variety of ongoing clinical trials in disorders ranging from depression to schizophrenia to borderline personality disorder. These clinical trials provide treatment in the context of ongoing research studies, generally at no cost to the patient. There are also numerous human research studies that examine patterns, risk factors, cognitive function, and the neurobiology of mental illness but do not provide treatment. Currently almost 500 externally funded studies with budgets totaling $86 million are underway, most of them supported by the federal government.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Research Security Administrator works with the research community to ensure that utilization of electronic systems is in compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), International Conference on Harmonization/Good Clinical Practices (ICH/GCP) guidelines, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as state and local guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with OMH and local psychiatric institutes Information Technology (IT) departments to guide and train researchers and
- Serve as an expert and resource for the research team when barriers arise during day-to-day operations.
- Coordinating with IT departments at the research institutes and travel to OMH psychiatric facilities to deploy both in-person and online initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.A./M.S. degree or equivalent related experience.
- A minimum of three years of experience in a Human Research Protections Program setting at an academic medical center.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing REDCap, Qualtrics, OnCore, Medidata or other electronic data capture system
- Knowledge of HIPAA and data storage
- One or more years of experience as a Clinical Research Associate or Research Coordinator
