Overview:
Touro College of Pharmacy seeks a Research Scientist. This position is for an individual who has a background in pharmacy, chemistry, biology or pharmaceutical sciences and is interested in providing comprehensive support for pharmacy laboratory courses and faculty-sponsored research projects.
Responsibilities:Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist in the TCOP’s pharmaceutics teaching laboratories with a focus on non-sterile and sterile compounding.
- Provide assistance to members of the faculty with regards to the projects, technologies and protocols performed in the research laboratory.
- Should be able to work independently and proficient in maintaining and procuring inventories of chemicals, reagents and consumables for research and teaching purposes; routine maintenance of all laboratory instruments; and ensuring appropriate disposal of materials to be discarded.
- Keep an inventory of chemicals, reagents and consumables; maintain all laboratory instruments, and MSDS sheets.
- Prepare the lab materials used by the students in the compounding lab; keep an inventory; A thorough knowledge of appropriate disposal methods is a must.
- Prepare the compounding lab for each session; ensure that the laboratory is organized and clean, and that each student has all the materials and glassware required for each laboratory session.
- Assist instructors during laboratory sessions.
- Ensure that laboratories are neat at the end of the laboratory session; glassware and instruments are clean and ready for the next session.
- Make copies of manuals and distribute them to the students.
- Organize and maintain the research lab; assist professors and students engaged in research projects.
- Proactively reach out to faculty to review project plans, equipment, requirements and material requirements.
- Ensure that equipment is properly cleaned and maintained, and that chemicals, drugs and other materials are appropriately stored.
- Ensure that all health, safety and regulatory procedures and policies are understood and followed correctly.
- Perform other activities as requested by the Chair or the Dean.
Education/ Experience
- Bachelor of Pharmacy required.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty and colleagues required
- Familiarity with molecular biological techniques familiarity with cell culture is helpful.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoints etc. are expected.
- Familiarity in running day-to-day activities in a chemistry lab is highly desirable.
- Experience as a pharmacy technician and/or preparing sterile/intravenous products is a plus.
