Title: Research Laboratory Animal Veterinarian Technician
Location: Atlanta, GA
Status: Part-Time
Hours: Must be able to work on weekends and holidays up to 4 hours a day.
Position Summary:
Research Laboratory Animal Veterinarian Technician will support HIV prevention studies. The primary purpose of this contract is to perform animal related procedures to support DHP LB laboratory research on HIV treatment and prevention using nonhuman primate models.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Preform animal services as specified herein and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- Perform administration of anesthesia and antiretroviral drugs on nonhuman primates on weekends and holidays up to 4 hours a day.
- Perform preparatory tasks related to the administration of antiretroviral drugs.
- Perform post-procedure cleaning, sterilization or other maintenance of instruments or equipment according to standard operating procedures.
- Properly process, handle, transport, store, and record procedures and observations
- Keep track of and maintain supplies and reagents needed for the procedure.
- Enter information into relevant databases to maintain current summaries of nonhuman primate work and results.
- Attend all required onsite contract and safety trainings.
- Submit Weekly Reports.
Minimum Requirements
- 3+ years of veterinary technician experience, a year of which in a laboratory animal setting preferred.
- Experience with nonhuman primates.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain vaccinations, physicals and all medical requirements.
- Preferred: Certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) as a Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) and/or a current Registered/Licensed Veterinary Technician (RVT) credential, acquired through a program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)/Committee of Veterinary Education and Activities (CVTEA).
