The Applied Perception Science & Image Quality team is seeking interns for 2024. These Internships aim to advance our understanding of the human visual system and visual processing in order to optimize the design and development of next generation augmented and virtual reality systems. As an intern you will have the unique opportunity to work with the best-in-class researchers and engineers that are working to define the future of these technologies. Research Intern, Applied Perception Science & Image Quality (PhD) Responsibilities:
- Design and implementation of experiments or models that explore aspects of visual perception as it pertains to product architecture or design.
- Collaboration with and support of other researchers across various disciplines (human factors, optics, graphics, display).
- Communication of research agenda, progress and results over the course of the intern project.
- Produce publication worthy results.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in the field of Vision Science, Perceptual Psychology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar field.
- Creativity and quick problem solving capabilities.
- Track record of achieving results.
- Ability to collaborate across teams and to interact with groups and people across the world.
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications:
- Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
- Experience with visual perception.
- Ability to design and perform psychophysical experiments.
- Understanding of the graphics rendering pipeline.
- Understanding of display calibration.
- Demonstrated software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions or scientific publications.
- Knowledge of optics, signal processing, mathematical modeling and/or simulation expertise with respect to visual perception and/or systems design.
- Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications in high-impact journals or conferences (e. g., JoV, SID, CVPR, SIGGRAPH, Eurographics, etc.).
