Research & Development Specialist II
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Vector Production Capability Hub in Biotechnology is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented individual for a critical production role in a high-throughput production lab. This role involves a knowledge of current cloning practices, host cell transformation, as well as familiarity with automation. This position is based out of Chesterfield, MO. This individual will work collaboratively with other team members to deliver daily and weekly targets under tight deadlines, identify opportunities for system or process improvements, and operates within and oversees day to day activities within the team environment. The successful candidate operates independently with minimal instruction on day-to-day work.
The primary responsibilities of this role, Research & Development Specialist II, are to:
- Deliver daily/weekly targets in a high throughput production lab;
- Plan and execute experiments independently based on inputs from collaborating Scientists on as needed basis;
- Develop or modify protocols, as appropriate;
- Scientific problem-solving skills;
- Work within automated processes to ensure optimization;
- Oversee automated processes to head off potential issues to ensure viable outputs;
- Be responsible for data documentation, analytics, and quality control of outputs;
- Exercise discretion to move outputs through the process or pause the process for reevaluation, with the ability to understand the downstream impacts of this decision and coordinates with others on an appropriate solution;
- Adhere to established protocols and good laboratory/greenhouse practice techniques for safety and ISO purposes;
- Demonstrate good judgment when identifying and implementing process improvements;
- Accountable for cross-functional work in multiple platforms/process areas;
- Collaborate and coordinate work/resources with peers, contractors, and stakeholders within a large team;
- Trains contractors on routine tasks;
- Maintain detailed record keeping and ISO documentation;
- Work with in LIMs systems to move tasks through the pipeline;
- Provide quality control through all processes/projects;
- Achieve commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols and best practices;

Required Qualifications:
- H.S. Diploma or GED;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel;
- Ability to spend most of the day working in a high-throughput lab environment;
- Mechanical aptitude for operating and troubleshooting automation;
- Agility and flexibility to transition work where needed to alleviate bottlenecks within the team;
- Must have flexible working hours to accommodate the needs of the business (with prior notice). This includes possible weekend shifts, holidays, etc.;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to build strong relationships and networks across functions, shifts, sub-teams, and sites;
- Ability to expand knowledge base through continuous learning;
- Receptive to giving and receiving peer to peer feedback to help grow self and team culture;
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results on established timeline.
