Who We Are:
We are a group focused on scientific research into a wide range of topics related to understanding the Sun, the formation, evolution, and release of its magnetic energy, and the impact of energetic releases on the Earth and the solar system. Our main approach to accomplish this is through the use of artificial intelligence and data-driven analysis. This includes designing, implementing, training, validating, and deploying AI models.
Objectives of this Role:
- Designing, implementing, training, validating, and deploying AI models applied to heliophysics.
- Develop new algorithms for data interrogation, homogenization and analysis.
- Present work at conferences.
- Publish works in academic journals.
- Write and win proposals for self-guided research contracts.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Write scientific code for training and validating AI models applied to data interrogation, data homogenization, and space weather applications
- Design and implement new AI pipelines that use AI to empower scientific discovery in heliophysics. In particular, focused on solar image data such as magnetograms and ultraviolet.
- Interact with other scientists at the institute to develop new ideas as to how to use AI to advance the goals of heliophysics science and heliophysics missions in Division 19.
Requirements:
- Requires a PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Aerospace Engineering degree or related degree field with relevant AI experience.
- 1 years: Training and validating AI algorithms in heliophysics
- 1 years: Scientific programming in python. Experience must include the ability to use frameworks to train and validate AI models, such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, and/or JAX.
- Expertise in space weather forecast, as well as work with both Magnetogram, and Ultraviolet images from a wide range of missions.
