Job Summary
This is a 12-month non-tenure-tract 100% research position (Research Assistant Professor) at the Agricultural Research Station in the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technologies (CAFST), at the Fort Valley State University (FVSU), Fort Valley, Georgia. Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2023.
Duties and Responsibilities
The individual is expected to develop a strong and competitively funded independent research program to address emerging issues in the field of meat science and the meat industry in support of the activities of the Center red meat plant located in the CAFST at FVSU. The selected individual must develop and establish comprehensive meat science training curricula to include but not limited to live animal evaluation, carcass grading, fabrication, and development of value-added products; supervise undergraduate and graduate students; work with the meat plant manager to train students and other constituents interested in industry work experiences and internships; lead students in extracurricular learning experiences; and provide training to support the teaching faculty; serve as the liaison between the Small Ruminant Research and Extension Center and the meat industry; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: (1) PhD in meat science; (2) understanding of US meat industry and regulatory environment; (3) excellent writing and oral communication program management; (4) experience in serving diverse audiences. The ideal candidates should demonstrate: the ability to develop and deliver effective training programming for county Extension agents, livestock producers, meat processors, undergraduate and graduate students; The selected individual must be self-motivation with the ability to achieve measurable results and possess positive interpersonal skills with the capability and willingness to work independently as well as part of a team.
Working conditions
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with travel as required. Must be able to work in cold environment as required in meat processing plants.
Physical Requirements
The individual must be able to walk on wet floor, navigate in tight space, handle sharp knives and other cutting pieces of equipment, and lift about 50 pounds.
