Job Description:
The Research Assistant will participate in all aspects of research in LSB and VCU facilities as part of a small, but growing, multi-institutional collaboration led by LSB officers
Responsibilities:
- Attend the mouse colony.
- Assist with mouse treatments (involving a near-infrared laser), mouse IVIS imaging, and collection of tissues for ex vivo analyses.
- Assist with biochemical, molecular, and cytological analysis of mouse tissues. This will include histological staining, immunohistochemistry, and LA-ICP-MS; and may include tissue culture, assays of cell viability and biomarkers, and flow cytometry, among other techniques.
- Maintain the lab, including maintenance of equipment and inventory, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and maintaining lab documentation for safety reviews and audits.
- Organize and analyze results of experiments and present data to others as required, including assistance with materials for grant proposals, investor due diligence, FDA communications, etc.
- Assist in orienting new collaborators and personnel in methods and techniques used by LSB.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering and 1 year of relevant work experience in a biomedical lab; or equivalent education and experience.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of molecular biology techniques and a composite set of skills including strong communication, organization and written skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal management skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an inclusive staff environment or commitment to do so.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Education and Experience:
- MS degree; or BS degree or equivalent with 3 years relevant experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in experimental techniques with animals (e.g. mice); especially if involving drug delivery, pharmacology, or toxicology.
- Candidates with the skills and/or interest to expand beyond this role as LSB grows are highly desired.
