Job Title: Research Assistant
FTE: 0.75 - 1.0 (30-40 hours/week)
Salary Range: $17.30 - $20.20/hour DOE
Position Summary
This position is with the Research and Development Service of the VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS) in Portland, Oregon. The Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the research team with multiple aspects of health services and clinical research related to infectious diseases, quality improvement, and implementation efforts.
The Research Assistant (RA) will support the implementation of a multi-drug resistant organism (MDRO) tracking system at VA facilities across the nation. This person will help develop and deliver system training, support system users (clinicians and hospital administrators), and contribute to the evaluation of the implementation process. The RA will also participate in a large-scale medical record review of patients with MDROs of interest.
This position may include (optional) travel to VA facilities across the nation, and may support multiple research projects/investigators. The position may fluctuate between 30-40 hours/week depending on project needs and employee interest. 30 hours/week are guaranteed; this position is eligible for full benefits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Research Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Project Manager/PI, and assists with a range of research-related tasks including:
- Managing communications with clinicians and hospital administrators
- Recruiting and tracking research participants/system users
- Medical record review/data extraction
- Data entry and organization
- Transcribing interviews and focus groups
- Completing IRB paperwork
- Monitoring compliance of projects with various regulations
- Assisting with grant preparation and other writing tasks
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree and 1+ year of human subjects research experience
- Professional oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational ability and attention to detail
- Ability to effectively prioritize/multitask
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Preferred:
- Experience with IRB/regulatory paperwork
- Proficiency with database software (Excel, SPSS)
- Experience with medical record review and/or microbiology reports
