The Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Administrative / Office support for individuals age 55 and over and per EPA Policy applicants must be US Citizen to support the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through a grant administered program through National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). Qualifications: Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in Microbiological Laboratory OR BA/BS Degree in Biological sciences, biochemistry, chemistry OR Previously completed training in Operation of standard microbiological laboratory equipment and preparation of materials for laboratory studies Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS OneDrive, Fax, Copying Machine, Multiple Phone Lines, Scanner Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, OneDrive) Duties: Provide the foundation for the laboratory?s functions by working closely with scientists to assess and respond to the staff?s needs for microbiological media, reagents, glassware, and specialized materials. Perform quality assurance assessments of media, reagents, laboratory equipment, and scientific records; provide recommendations for improvement. Independently conduct studies to support the laboratory?s research and development needs. Work closely with a team of scientists to assess and respond to requests for the preparation of microbiological media and reagents. Prepare media and reagents according to prescribed laboratory standard operating procedures. Oversee and maintain the laboratory?s glassware supply including its cleaning, sterilization, and stocking. Maintain the laboratory?s stock of sterile specialized equipment including filtration apparatuses, tubes, forceps, et 50% Conduct quality assurance assessments of media and reagent sterility and interpret and record results. Propose strategies for responding to, correcting, and mitigating occurrences of contamination. 20% Conduct quality assurance assessments of microbiological laboratory equipment including autoclaves, pH meters, and dishwashers. Identify equipment-associated complications and interface with laboratory staff to recommend technical and/or mechanical support. 20% Perform quality assurance assessments of scientific records, identify errors, and provide recommendations for improvement. 5% Independently conduct limited research studies to support the research and development efforts of disinfectant efficacy test methods. Includes preparing for and executing studies, summarizing data, and presenting results. 5% Other: 24 hours of standard laboratory training and yearly refresher training candidate will be provided with training on laboratory equipment as well as biosafety training Health Safety Training: Enrollee must take 24 hours of initial laboratory safety training as well as annual refresher training Health and Safety Considerations: Enrollee will take training on line in basic laboratory safety techniques as well as biosafety training specific to the laboratory Enrollee will work with chemicals reagents and biological materials in a laboratory setting. Enrollee will work with chemicals, reagents, and biological materials in a laboratory setting Required Safety Gear: Lab coat, safety glasses, gloves Safety Gear Use: lab coat and safety glasses required for entry into the laboratory
