Position: Biotech Research Analyst
This role involves conducting investment analyses focused on identifying high-value opportunities within the biotechnology sector. Collaborating with the Healthcare & Life Sciences Team and the broader Investment Team, the analyst provides investment recommendations aligned with the firm's Business 360 philosophy while contributing to portfolio strategy, construction, and security selection.
Responsibilities
- Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of companies, evaluating factors like competitive advantage, management quality, industry structure, and Business 360 criteria.
- Conduct in-depth investment research, including independent analyses, company due diligence, interviews with management teams and industry experts, and reviews of publicly available data.
- Develop buy/sell recommendations through detailed evaluations of companies, industries, B360 criteria, financial forecasts, valuations, and risk assessments.
- Analyze historical financial performance and build proprietary models of financial statements to create forecasts.
- Conduct valuation analyses, including price targets and risk assessments.
- Monitor existing portfolio holdings and assess ongoing market opportunities.
- Drive diligence and deal execution for private biotech investments, potentially serving as a board representative.
- Provide portfolio insights on holdings managed by other team members.
- Support portfolio management initiatives and contribute to external communications in collaboration with the Sales and Marketing teams.
- Stay updated on industry trends and integrate best practices into ongoing work.
- Participate in ad hoc research and related projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) or equivalent (MBA, CFA) preferred.
- Five or more years of experience in biotech investment preferred; enthusiasm for the sector required.
- Strong research, financial modeling, analytical, and valuation skills.
- Passion for financial and industry analysis as well as stakeholder assessment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to a dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative working relationships.
