Qualifications:
- Minimum education: PhD/Doctoral degree from an accredited college/university in bioinformatics, statistics, genetics, computational biology, or related field. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S equivalency.
- No. of years of experience needed: PHD with 5+ years of experience within academics or industry.
- Required/Must have skills/techniques: Whole genome data QC from DRAGEN variant calling, in preparation for genetic association testing.
- Nice to haves/preferred skills/techniques: Experience with NextFlow and adapting pipelines in cloud-based analysis platforms.
- This position requires extensive experience with large-scale whole exome/genome data including QC, relatedness, population genetic and association analyses, and familiarity with UNIX, Perl/Python, and statistical environments such as R.
- Software skills: DRAGEN, PLINK, RGENIE.
- The successful candidate will be team-oriented, with the ability to effectively communicate and thrive in an inclusionary, integrated, and multidisciplinary work environment.
- Team-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred:
- Direct experience with DRAGEN variant calling population-scale whole genome data QC and preparedness for downstream genetic association testing.
- Flexibility in adapting pipelines and scripts for different cloud-based platforms.
- Experience with NextFlow
Note:
- Remote option available. Possibility of extension after 6 months.
- Looking for a contractor to assist with some computational analysis of large scale (>10K samples) human whole genome sequencing data in preparation for genetic association analysis, to be performed in an AWS platform.
- Need someone who is currently working in the field. Do not submit candidates with long gaps, jumpy job history.

Responsibilities:
Bioinformatician/Computational biologist/Statistical geneticist
The Data, AI and Genome Sciences (DAGS) department is currently seeking a bioinformatician/computational biologist/statistical geneticist with extensive expertise in large-scale whole exome/whole genome data analysis to join an energetic team of computational biologists.
Key Roles/Responsibilities:
- Computational analysis of large-scale WGS data in preparation for GWAS; potential to expand scope to benchmarking GWAS pipelines for downstream analysis
- The successful candidate will be intricately involved in the design and execution of human genetic studies to transform discoveries into testable therapeutic hypotheses across Cardiovascular, Immunology, Ophthalmology and Neurosciences
diseases areas.
- Perform large-scale (>50K samples) genotyping data QC on DRAGEN output and population structure testing for downstream association studies, meta-analysis, and fine mapping.
- Contribute to building, benchmarking, and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines to facilitate high-throughput genomic data analysis in cloud environments.
- Harmonize and maintain diverse datasets and associated metadata, including performing meta-analyses of data run on multiple platforms and/or externally generated data.
- Thoughtfully synthesize results into clear presentations (including QQ-plots, Manhattan plots) and concise summaries of work to support recommendations for next steps.
- In-depth knowledge of genome-wide association studies and interpretation and applied computational research on large multivariate datasets.
- Expertise in algorithmic implementation, statistical programming and data manipulation, and a wide range of contemporary, open-source bioinformatics tools
- Proficiency with Bash, Python, Perl, R, C/C++, and/or JAVA
- Demonstrated ability to proactively remain up to date in current bioinformatics techniques and resources and identify and benchmark novel software solutions against established reference datasets.
- Experience in constructing practical computational tools/pipelines for data parsing, quality control, modelling, and analysis for large-scale genetic or genomics datasets.

- Need person who is agile, flexible, and out of the box thinker.
- Experience with NextFlow is helpful.
