Day in the Life Under the supervision of the Lead Radiology Technologist, the Registry Radiological Technologist will provide information to help Physician diagnose patient illnesses by operating radiologic equipment to produce radiographsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs diagnostic imaging procedures through the use of Radiographic equipment to generate information necessary for the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of patients in accordance with industry, departmental, and IEMA policies and proceduresAssess and evaluate the physician's orders for Radiological examinations according to departmental procedureEvaluates the request for the procedure and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate protocolApplies radiation safety measures as appropriateEducates patient as to the examination being performed, reduces patient anxiety, and provides comfort during the procedurePositions patient and performs diagnostic imaging procedure utilizing appropriate equipmentPerforms electronic quality analysis of the Radiographic imageCompletes and maintains radiologic medical record of the patient including proficiency in utilizing PACSRadiographers must be able to manage the patients safely and effectively during imaging procedures with the limitations of the patient's cognitive abilities, psycho-motor skills, emotional stability and sensory capacities (sight, hearing, etc.)Observes the confidentiality of department informationMonitors studies for proper and adequate labeling, marking and history for all patient treatments.Ensures observance of safety standards in compliance with legal requirements and department regulations.Demonstrates knowledge of age specific factors necessary to perform duties safely and effectively.Displays patience and tact when dealing with patients' families and other health professionalsPreserves patient dignity, privacy and modesty following all HIPPA guidelines at all timesEnsures the performance of daily quality control on instrumentation per department protocol.Maintain all records and documentation as required by personnel for DVN Inspections.Ensure radiation protection and safety practices for technologist and others in accordance with prescribed standards. (except US/MRI)Make minor adjustments to equipment as deemed necessaryAdhere to all prescribed safety procedures in the performance of their duties.Checks quality of examinations and performs repeats if necessary.Provides patient with explanation of protocol and procedures when applicable.Maintains awareness of safety hazards and use of equipment to prevent damage to personnel and patients.Reports equipment needing repair to Manager of Imaging immediatelyObtains a complete history from the patient and/or chart prior to implementing procedures.Performs imaging operations on assigned patients to obtain optimum examsMaintains an orderly work area to ensure maximum efficiency.Assists other staff when work is completedExhibits timely, satisfactory completion of patient's assignments with minimal assistance, as evidenced by no overtime unless requested and approved by Manager.Documents tests, procedures, to be performed on chart, and communicates this to appropriate person, and follows through to assure orders are completed with no documented errors noted.Properly documents all unusual incidentsEnsures that all work is performed in accordance with production and quality standards.Review and evaluate developed x-rays, video tape, or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure safety and comfort during exam.Operate or oversee operation of radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.Position and immobilize patient on examining table.Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.Monitor patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician.Set up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready.Other duties assignedCOMPETENCIES:Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.Expertise transverse anatomy and medical terminologyGood organizational skills and exceptional customer service skills.Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy clinical environment.Above average oral and written communication skills.Demonstrates ability to work independently.Ability to effectively work with physicians, nurses, patients, families, staff, other healthcare professionals, and management.Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality of patient, patient account, and personnel data.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Associates or bachelor's degree in applied radiologic science or certification from an accredited radiologic technology program preferred.Certification in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic TechnologistsActive license with Illinois Emergency Management Administration (IEMA)Minimum 2 years' experience in Radiography in a high volume Orthopaedic clinical settingCurrent CPR certification preferredWorking Conditions/Physical Demands:Job requires the ability to move (push/pull) with assistance patients up to 300lbs as well as standing in one place for extended periods of time.Standing requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patientsPotential exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluidsTravel between both locations or Orland Park and Oak Lawn offices when needed for coverageMidwest Orthopaedic Consultants is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
