Job Summary:
The Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (CSU-VTH) is seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our Emergency and Critical Care team. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional medical care to our patients, assist veterinarians with various procedures, and contribute to the efficient functioning of the emergency and critical care unit, including the possibility of working in isolation and hospitalized wards.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians with the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of emergency and critical care patients.
- Perform technical procedures, including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, radiology, laboratory testing, and anesthesia monitoring.
- Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor and document vital signs, patient status, and responses to treatments.
- Provide compassionate care and support to patients and effectively communicate with their owners.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work environment.
- Operate and maintain medical equipment used in the emergency and critical care unit.
- Participate in patient rounds and communicate patient status and care plans with the veterinary team.
- Assist with triaging incoming emergency cases.
- Provide training and mentorship to veterinary technician students and interns.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Work in isolation and hospitalized wards, ensuring appropriate care and management of patients with infectious diseases or those requiring intensive monitoring.
Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in the state of Colorado.
- Strong technical skills in emergency and critical care procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
- Compassionate and patient-focused approach to veterinary care.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and bending.
- Ability to handle and restrain animals of various sizes.
