A Regional Transportation Manager is responsible to manage the shipping and distribution of inbound-outbound material after completion of packing to arrival at destination and inbound material from Intercompany or vendors till receiving at the dock.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Plans and analyzes distribution strategy.
- Works with freight forwarders to negotiate better pricing and more reliable and faster route options.
- Identifies shipping issues; reports and implements solutions in a timely manner.
- Manages budgeting and correct coding of freight costs.
- Manages the TMS software and recommends improvements/upgrades in the software.
- Owns and constantly reviews the end to end distribution process.
- Creates a good cross functional team which is able to cope with the fluctuations in capacity/demand.
- Sets internal and external inbound/outbound shipping KPI's.
- External KPI's: Discuss regular external KPI's with freight forwarders and create action plans for continuous improvement.
- Internal KPI's: Suggest solutions for process optimization and create action plans to eliminate waste and control costs.
- Builds and maintains professional relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders (such as COS, warehouse workers, purchasing managers, suppliers and regional transportation managers from other facilities, etc.).
- Displays a good understanding of international shipping requirements, especially to Mid and South America.
- Manages daily shipping operations.
- Maintains detailed records and prepares communications and reports as needed.
- Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed.
- Associate's degree in logistics/supply chain perferred or equicalent experience
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as a transportation manager or similar role
- Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience in a warehouse or production environment
Experience Needed
- Hands on experience in budgeting and reporting
- Strong knowledge how to ship product to Mid - and South America and hazardous materials
- Strong understanding of incoterms is essential for this role
- Good understanding on the Transportation market and able to make strategic decisions accordingly
- Experience with small parcel shipments and Intercontinental air shipments
- Understand the concept of rules of origin and be able to apply on related topics such as COO and FTA
- Good understanding of TMS systems
- Knowledge of logistics operations and shipping procedures and documentations
