About the Job
_What Product Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health_ Engineering is responsible for performing research and analyses to develop design options for components, products, systems and processes. Product Engineering is responsible for developing iterations, modifying, implementing and supporting existing products that function within the product families through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering practices.
Cardinal Health PET Manufacturing Services is responsible for manufacturing PET isotopes to enhance patient treatment through improved disease diagnosis, staging, and monitoring. Leveraging our fully integrated network of domestic nuclear pharmacies, Cardinal Health PET Manufacturing Services compounds, dispenses, and distributes patient-specific, unit-dose PET products in pharmacy markets today.
_What Cyclotron Engineer contributes to Cardinal Health_
Our Cyclotron Engineering team provides support to our PET production sites that manufacture products from about midnight through 9 am. Engineers provide maintenance to the manufacturing systems (cyclotron and chemical synthesis units) outside of these hours and are also on call if there are issues during production. The systems we work with are radioactive so for safety reasons much-planned maintenance is performed late afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
The primary work environment consists of a cyclotron and associated manufacturing facility for the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals, which must be kept clean, orderly, properly lighted, and maintained in optimum operating condition. Employees handle radioactive materials and are exposed to very low amounts of radiation that are deemed safe by current standards.
The candidate must be located or willing to relocate within 40 miles of one of the following NPHS PET manufacturing facilities: AL-Birmingham PET, AZ-Phoenix PET, CA-Colton PET, CA-Sacramento PET, CO-Denver PET, GA-Augusta PET, KS-Wichita PET, KY-Louisville PET, MD-Beltsville PET, MN-Roseville PET, NC-Charlotte PET, NE-Omaha PET, NM-Albuquerque PET, NY-Rochester PET, TN-Memphis PET, TX-Dallas PET, TX-Houston PET, WA-Seattle PET, IL-Glendale Heights PET, CA-Van Nuys PET, CT-East Hartford PET, FL-Fort Lauderdale PET, OH-Columbus PET-OSU, LA-New Orleans-Ochsner-PET, MI-East Lansing MSU PET, NV-Las Vegas PET 2, OH-West Chester PET, PA-Sharon Hill Phil PET.
Responsibilities
+ Leads and manages a team of engineers within their assigned region.
+ Provides regional support to on-site manufacturing operations staff for troubleshooting and repairing all cyclotron systems, production equipment, and quality analysis tools.
+ Executes the established maintenance program for cyclotron facilities in the region based on production demands and business needs.
+ Leads performance and reliability improvements for assigned systems within the region.
+ Supervises high-priority projects that critically affect the PET network, and provide support to ensure these projects are effectively managed and completed, reporting progress to senior leadership.
+ Participates in projects that improve performance, achieve cost savings, or apply ALARA principles, positively affecting the PET organization.
+ Travels to other PET facilities in the region to provide engineering coverage and technical assistance.
+ Supports complex engineering projects and change control activities at the regional level.
+ Assists with start-up and commissioning activities during restoration for complex maintenance issues.
Qualifications
+ The candidate must be located or willing to relocate within 40 miles of one of the Nuclear Precision Health Solutions PET manufacturing facilities.
+ A bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience is preferred.
+ 8-12 years of experience in a scientific, engineering, or technical field is strongly preferred.
+ A minimum of 5+ years of experience in troubleshooting and repairing large-scale electronic, computing, and/or mechanical systems is strongly preferred.
+ Supervisory experience is a plus.
+ Previous military or radiation work experience is a plus.
+ Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, encourage, and lead a team of high-performing engineers to maintain optimal operations. Driving accountability for training, performance, and metrics is essential.
+ Extensive knowledge of cyclotron theory, chemistry, physics, and radiation safety is required.
+ Advanced troubleshooting skills for complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems are required.
+ Strong analytical skills, with the ability to define problems, collect data, identify root causes, and draw valid conclusions.
+ Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing within an FDA-regulated environment, or comparable mechanical, electronic, or laboratory experience is preferred.
+ Working knowledge of Radiation Safety, ALARA concepts, and radioactive materials handling is preferred.
+ Strong attention to detail, good initiative, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
+ Excellent documentation practices and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely across diverse cultures.
+ Familiarity with cGMP, GLP, FDA, NRC, and OSHA regulations.
+ Ability to lift containers weighing up to 50 lbs. and perform tasks requiring crawling, stooping, crouching, and kneeling.
+ Willingness to travel to assigned cyclotron facilities to fulfill job duties.
