Guides consistent execution of HSE risk reduction for assigned Region. This position communicates and ensures alignment among business units and sites to center developed HSE initiatives. Oversees deployment of HSE tools and methodologies to the field and aligns leadership to annual HSE tactics that support overall strategy. Leads market-level HSE capability building that results in high quality HSE risk management. Additionally, is an active member of key Operations leadership teams and uses such presence to integrate HSE initiatives into overall business priorities. This position leads a team of HSE resources that provides proactive technical and regulatory HSE guidance, as well as responds to issues.
This position is remote with up to 70% travel in the Southeast region of the United States.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Builds alignment among key stakeholders to consistently implement center-developed HSE initiatives against established timelines. Explains strategic intent and desired outcomes of HSE initiatives to business stakeholders to improve understanding, gain acceptance, and build momentum.
Engages with Operations leadership to guide HSE broadly and deeply throughout the company and to stay abreast of and provide input to other safety initiatives – especially those with HSE implications.
Leads a HSE team (Sr. Manager, Managers) to ensure ready, high quality, and proactive HSE support to all operations sites. Regularly follows up with sites to gauge HSE team effectiveness. Coaches team accordingly.
Serves as the HSE knowledge leader (Transportation Safety, Safety & Health, Environmental Compliance) for locations, and with HSE team, assists with HSE troubleshooting, problem-solves HSE challenges, clarifies HSE regulatory requirements, and answers technical HSE questions to minimize HSE exposures.
Drives HSE execution throughout Specialties operations to reduce HSE risk exposures, deepen HSE cultural engagement, and achieve regulatory compliance. Oversees the regular monitoring and reporting of annual HSE plan execution. Consults with Specialties leaders on plan execution improvement opportunities.
Ensures local HSE capability building so that sites can assess and control HSE risks in line with center-developed tools and methodologies. Coaches and educates resources in classroom and “on the floor” settings to ensure high quality HSE risk management and routines. Audits / facilitates HSE self-assessments per center guidance.
Ensures timely onboarding of new site-based leaders (e.g., Supervisors, Managers, General Managers, etc.) so that they understand their role in HSE and how and when to use various HSE-related systems (CHEFS, First Advantage, Lytx, APSM, etc.).
Provides input to Corporate HSE Excellence team on center-developed tools to help ensure their practicality, user friendliness, and effectiveness in managing HSE risk and implementing HSE routines. Specifically supports Corporate HSE Excellence in the development of risk-based tools targeted to all operations.
Leads assigned HSE incident investigations as directed by Corporate leadership and internal counsel. Investigates Ethics Line concerns as requested.
Leads / co-leads one or more company-wide HSE initiatives as assigned (may include HSE systems, special events, specific vendor relationships, etc.).
Models high ethical standards and employee advocacy reinforcing the “We Care” mindset.
Ability to travel up to 70%.

Directly supervises HSE Sr. Managers/ Managers.
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
Regularly interfaces and collaborates with leaders; Legal, HR, Risk Management/ Claims Specialists; Operations leadership.
External:
Key HSE Vendors, Outside Counsel, Regulatory Agencies (OSHA, DOT, EPA).
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering, Science, or HSE field.
Professional certification (CSP, CIH, PE) or ability to become certified.
Related Experience/Requirements:
Minimum of 8 years demonstrated success in the manufacturing, foodservice and / or distribution industries that spans Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Transportation Safety and Environmental Management.
Multi-site responsibility and supervisory experience required.
Exceptional communication skills and experience in working with senior leadership.
Experience with union environments preferred.

Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law. The expected base rate for this role is between $110,000.00 and $180,000.00.
This role will also receive annual incentive plan bonus, incentive compensation of 30% above base salary, and long-term incentive program.
