About the Job
BASIC FUNCTION:
A licensed respiratory care practitioner (LRCP) provides a full range of Respiratory Services to patients, including diagnostic evaluations, treatment, management, and care of patients with respiratory deficiency and abnormalities associated with cardiopulmonary system, in accordance with specific physician’s orders, department policies and procedures. The LRCP exercises professional judgment in the performance of these procedures. The LRCP provides good patient care and recognizes when conditions arise requiring immediate action and/or initialization of life support measures. The LRCP provides education to patients, family, and staff. The LRCP maintains patient confidentiality. The LRCP is responsible to the Director of Respiratory Services and or assistant manager.
JOB DUTIES:
- Capable of functioning with minimal supervision, follows the hospitals standards, protocols, and
procedures of the hospital. Performs therapy independently in accordance with policy and procedures. - Will work 8- or 12-hour shifts, may rotate shifts, works every other weekend and holidays as assigned
- Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated to provide appropriate patient care.
- Subject to frequent interruptions during performance of duties.
- Expected to adhere to the colleague handbook.
- Must be computer literate to complete task required: Electronic Medical Charting, Performance Appraisal System, Relias Education System, ability to retrieve emails, complete online enrollment for health insurance benefits and any other program assigned.
- Assumes responsibility for assigned area, including reporting pertinent information and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate members of the healthcare team. (Physician, RN patient care tech and other RT’s)
- Will be assigned Charge respiratory duties including, but not limited to; liaison to all ancillary departments,
- serve as resource to all cardiopulmonary staff and oversee limited permit holders, create shift assignments and delegates task for the shift, responds or assigns all code blue, stroke alert or rapid response teams, responsible to arrange staff when a colleague reports off, accurately maintains patient roster, and other duties assigned. The Charge Therapist will be assigned on the Master Schedule.
- Participates in Orientation of new staff members or Students assigned to a rotation in our department.
- Participates in Respiratory staff meetings and or signs off department Memos.
- Performs EKG’s, Holter/extended/event monitors, hook-ups/downloads independently. Processing of
- Pediatric EKG’s.
- Assists with ownership of department including involvement in dept QA, policy and procedure, research
and development, scheduling, general housekeeping, and inventory/stocking of department supplies. - May be trained to perform EEG’s or Pulmonary Function Testing to meet department needs.
- All other duties as assigned by Director and or Assistant Manager to meet department needs.

AGE-APPROPRIATE CARE:
Colleague has been instructed in providing customer service and on interacting with age groups as related to the department's general client population: including use of appropriate interventions, communication, and skills to match the age and/or abilities of the patient/family.
MACHINES, TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED:
Must be knowledgeable in all respiratory-related equipment, including but not limited to; ventilators, non-invasive ventilators, Pulse oximetry, Oxygen administration gases and devices, aerosol delivery devices, capnography, peak flow meters metered dose inhalers, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and airway management. Other equipment/devices as required.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Registered Respiratory Therapist is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Director of Respiratory Services and or Assistant Manager of Respiratory Care.
