As a Samaritas Job Developer you will work with refugees seeking guidance and support from you to attain meaningful employment. We are seeking someone who is bilingual in Spanish, Dari, Ukrainian, Haitian Creole, French, OR Pashto, who has at least two years' experience as a Case Manager or Job Developer and at least 2 years of experience working with refugees and immigrant populations. Conducts job development and provides case management with job leads concerning employment opportunities for refugees/asylees.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable contract requirements and guidelines, employment trends and local labor market information to promote job development
- Initiate and maintain personal contacts and relationships with local businesses to identify job placement
- Track contacts with employers utilizing relevant forms and documents provided by Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)
- Conduct outreach presentations with local employers to garner support and commitment in hiring refugees
- Collaborate with employers to develop onsite training opportunities and communicate those opportunities to case management staff
- Ensure current employment leads are available to case management staff through ongoing communication and bi-weekly team meetings
- Advocate salary increases, job promotions and/or reassignments with current employers for refugees
- Partner with businesses and agencies to remove employment barriers and resolve issues related to refugee integration in the workplace and refugee independence
- Provide on-going education to employers regarding refugee characteristics and assist with strategizing appropriated steps to improve refugee's job performance. Monitor refugee's employment progress, including a 90 day retention follow-up with employers
- Maintain relevant reports and statistics related to refugee activities and services provided
- Collaborate with various stakeholder representatives, attend meetings of local organizations, committees and churches to promoted employment and training opportunities
Job Qualifications
Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience
- Two years' experience as a Job Developer or Case Manager
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills. Ability to relate creatively to representatives of various companies, community organizations and governmental agencies
- Knowledge of employment recruiting, interviewing, placement techniques and procedures, methods and techniques of job development and refugee job placement
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural context. Ability and willingness to compassionately, professionally and effectively work with refugees. Understanding or willingness to quickly learn the characteristics, behaviors and needs of the refugee populations
- Ability to speak, read and write fluent English; Arabic preferred
- Ability and willingness to work as part of a team in achieving common goals
- Ability to identify needs, interests, aptitudes, skills and problems, and refer refugees to appropriate support services, agencies and programs
- Basic knowledge of and ability to learn local employer community within specific geographic area
- Knowledge of or ability to learn to utilize various computer programs including Excel spreadsheet and graphic programs
Additional Work Requirements
- Automobile travel required.
- Valid unrestricted driver's license with good driving record and reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting refugees. Valid proof of automobile insurance
