Job Details
- Maintain and update rent ledgers for residential and commercial properties
- Assist in the preparation and filing of legal documents related to landlord/tenant disputes
- Draft and review lease agreements, eviction notices, and other legal correspondence
- Conduct legal research on landlord/tenant laws and regulations specific to New York State
- Prepare and organize case files for court appearances and administrative hearings
- Assist attorneys in gathering evidence and preparing for landlord/tenant litigation
- Coordinate with property managers to collect necessary documentation for legal proceedings
- Schedule and attend court appearances, mediations, and settlement conferences
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case management records
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or related field
- 2-5 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in real estate or landlord/tenant law
- Strong knowledge of New York landlord/tenant laws and regulations
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in legal research and writing
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal software applications
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with commercial real estate litigation
- Familiarity with property management software (Yardi and/or Skyline)
- Knowledge of local housing codes and regulations in Long Island
