POSITION SUMMARY
The Radiation Therapist is an ARRT Registered Therapist who is responsible for the administration of radiation therapy as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. The Therapist will have to interact with a variety of people including, but not limited to patients with cancer, physicians, nurses, patient's family, and co-workers. Therapists must possess good interpersonal communication skills. The disease of cancer may strike any age group necessitating that this position be involved in the care of all age groups from newborns through geriatrics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as a Radiation Therapist
- Must have knowledge of department functions, how and why radiation therapy is used, and be able to explain this to nurses, physicians, Medical Center staff, and the public
- Prior experience in a Radiation Oncology Department is desirable but not required
HOURS:
- 8am 5pm, Monday through Friday

Key Responsibilities:
- Administer Radiation Treatments: Deliver prescribed radiation therapy to patients using specialized equipment (linear accelerators, CT simulators, etc.).
- Patient Care: Monitor and assess patients for any side effects during treatment and provide emotional support throughout the treatment process.
- Treatment Planning Support: Collaborate with radiation oncologists and dosimetrists to ensure accurate treatment plans are followed.
- Patient Positioning: Accurately position patients for treatment and ensure the proper alignment of the radiation beams.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment documentation and any changes to the treatment plan.
Safety Protocols:
- Ensure patient safety by adhering to radiation safety protocols and standards.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance to ensure all devices are functioning correctly.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
Licensure/Certification:
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy.
Experience:
- Prior experience in radiation therapy is preferred, but not required.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of radiation therapy techniques and equipment.
- Excellent patient care skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow treatment protocols precisely.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BLS/CPR certification.
- Experience with advanced radiation therapy equipment and techniques.
- Must have knowledge of department functions, how and why radiation therapy is used, and be able to explain this to nurses, physicians, Medical Center staff, and the public.
