The Radiation Oncology Department of James A. Haley Veterans Hospital is seeking experienced Radiation Oncologist to join our dynamic team.

Position Details: The Tampa VA Medical Center is currently seeking a Physician, Radiation Oncologist. The Juan del Regato Radiation Oncology Center at the James A. Haley Veteran's Hospital received full accreditation from APEx ASTRO in September 2022. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and improving systems of delivering health care by participating in programs and following policies, improving utilization of resources, suggesting needed process changes for the clinical programs in the Radiation Oncology section within the Therapeutic and Diagnostic Radiology Service. Clinical equipment onsite includes a True Beam STX, M6 Cyberknife, Edge and plans for Tomo. We currently have a strong and robust team of 3 Radiation Oncology Physicians, 1 Nurse Practitioner, 3 Registered Nurses, 4 Physicists 4 Dosimetrists, a Chief Therapist and 11 Radiation Therapists. They will provide direct patient care to our unique Veteran population. Duties and responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
- Provides clinical instructions for Residents/Medical Students physics, dosimetry, radiation therapists and other clinical staff as assigned.
- Responsible for providing all services in an efficient, high-quality, cost-effective manner within budget allocation.
- Works with the Chief, Radiation Oncology and Chief, Radiology Service and other staff as appropriate, supports operations issues/problems resolution in a logical, step wise fashion.
- Participates in a forum in which staff identifies, communicates, and resolves issues related to Radiation Oncology Section, Medical Center ancillary and support operations, and VISN-wide mandates.
- Responsible for implementing the goal of improving care for patients within the Medical Center and VISN.
- Has a basic understanding of managed care practices, including health care finance, billing, coding, and documentation.
- Knowledge, ability, and willingness to use and promote the dissemination among clinical staff of current automated technology for Health Information Management Sections (HIMS), patient data tracking, patient orders, etc.
- Participates in local administrative, management, quality assurance, and other assignments, meetings, or committees.
- Provides direct patient care as a consultant in outpatient clinics and/or inpatient wards and will participate in the Radiation Oncology Section on call schedule.
- Participates in regular peer review activities.
- Maintains patient records and files. Follows HIPAA guidelines regarding patient information.
- Ensures timely completion of daily clinic notes with accurate documentation and coding of services rendered.
- Practices radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self, in compliance with department and VA radiation safety procedures to maintain occupational exposures "as low as reasonably achievable" (ALARA).
- Provides patients with accurate and compassionate treatment.
- Follows established safety practices and reports as promptly as possible to unsafe conditions, unsafe practices or any occupational illness or injury sustained. Adheres to all safety and health standards regulations, work practices and uses proper protective equipment as required.
- Participates in quality assurance (QA) activities to include and provide data collection, data analysis, and trends and reports on changes based on data collection.
- Participates in weekly, bi-weekly and monthly Tumor Boards.
- SRS/SBRT experience is encouraged but not required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. with Rotating Tours, Rotating Days, and On-Call. (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs.
The selected candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency with your application package.)
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Graduate Training: Board Eligible/Board Certified in Radiation Oncology.
