Position: R&D Software Engineer

Primary Objective of Position:
The Research & Development (R&D) Software/Electronics Engineer is responsible for carrying out and/or supporting research and development projects covering a wide range of rotating electrical machine design and product development. Projects will involve analysis and test verification, as well as presentation of the results. The Engineer must be able to apply engineering analytical skills to a wide array of problems and be eager to learn and master new engineering skills.
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Accountable for carrying out, supporting research and development projects.
- Designs and implements experiments on prototype and production machines to verify analyses.
- Manages both allotted project time, and budget and open-ended development projects.
- Prepares R&D project plans, budgets and schedules in partnership with Engineering Manager.
- Provides specifications, standards, and project reports; supporting both R&D and Production Engineering projects.
- Provides direction to Engineers, Design Drafters, and other support personnel as required to successfully complete projects.
- Resolves technical issues to meet special customer requirements; providing guidance and technical support to other departments.
- Collaborates with Sales and Marketing groups on technical information or studies for new and existing negotiations as required.
- Incorporates manufacturability input provided by Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering into designs.
- Strives to continuously improve machine designs; reducing design and production costs, increasing product value and quality.
- Must adhere to and fully support the Electric Machinery Quality Policy.
- Must be able to travel domestic and international up to 25%; troubleshooting components at customer sites
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in design or development of custom software for stand-alone devices
- Demonstrated experience with architecture of modern programs in order to integrate stand alone devices to existing user systems.
- Expert skills in embedded integration with existing devices.
- Demonstrated ability to understand, evaluate, and solve complex issues of technical content with guidance and technical support.
- Demonstrated experience with experimentation, coding, or analytical design experience required.
- Knowledge and experience with C++ and/or C#.
- Knowledge and experience interfacing with Windows and Linux and building a General User Interface for customers and/or User Experience design.
- Expected to work closely and harmoniously with all levels of the organization.
- Must be an effective communicator, with the ability to present results via written reports, presentations, multimedia, etc. to both internal staff, management, and to customers.
- Must be able to organize and pursue broad objectives, and have the ability to manage parallel priorities.
- Self-starting, results-oriented, flexible and team player.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed in both an office and manufacturing environment. Requires the ability to routinely move throughout the office and manufacturing facility to perform work.
- Requires the ability to ascend and descend stairs daily to reach all areas of the manufacturing facility.
- Requires the ability to routinely lift/move up to 25 lbs.
