FULL DESCRIPTION: Our client is looking for a talented R&D Lab Assistant in Commerce, CA
The selected candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- An Associate Degree in Food Science or related subject. If no degree, a candidate with some college coursework would be considered.
- Minimum of 1-2 years' experience in food industry or related.
- Ability to perform basic and complex mathematical calculations.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory and chemistry techniques
- Good organizational skills
- Good verbal & written communication skills
- Good and proactive work ethic under minimal supervision
- Ability to successfully complete projects on a timely basis
- Organized, time-bound, competent in both written and verbal communication.
- Knowledge and ability to implement and ensure adherence to OSHA and all safety techniques and procedures related to laboratory operations.
- Attention to detail and systematic approach of work required.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Assisting R&D Manager & Lab Techs in performing:
- Compounding liquid & powdered flavor samples
- Various R&D projects and functions
- Performing sensory evaluations, conducting routine tests, taking specifications, and keeping necessary records and documentation for R&D projects & the department.
- Organoleptic analysis, of raw material and finished products (color, texture, flavor and aroma)
- Assure accurate and complete documentation of activities, such as laboratory test results, and any associated documentation.
- Laboratory testing of finished products using various lab equipment (pH meter, moisture analyzer, refractometer, specific gravity, colorimeter, viscometer)
- Maintenance and calibration of all laboratory equipment, such as scales, moisture analyzers, magnetic stirs, incubators, ovens, and others
- Identify quality problems and recommend solutions.
- Utilize verbal and written reports to communicate results of scientific tests completed under his/her control.
- Perform general laboratory clean up daily, including but not limited to loading dishwasher, emptying dishwasher, clear and clean counters at end of day.
- Demonstrate ability to set priorities and meet deadlines on concurrent projects in a fast-paced, occasionally stressful environment.
Salary: up to $18-20/hr
