About the role
We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual who is ready to take on a technology development and innovation role. The candidate should possess good attention to detail, good mentorship ability, be creative, and possess good time management skills. This position is for research and development, including modeling, simulation, analysis and verification, of electromagnetic systems and machines. The candidate will be responsible to enforce the technology development process for various technical projects from research through to production implementation. This position allows the candidate to assist in advancing the e-motor technology roadmap that both supports the existing Nexteer product line and enables expansion for the next generation products. The candidate will also be responsible for coordinating cross-functional projects with multiple technical groups within the organization, support the organization for all areas of electromagnetics analysis and develop new electrical machines and concepts.
This role is aimed towards development of high power/torque density electric motor systems for vehicle electrification applications. The ideal candidate would possess strong technical skills that encompass multiple disciplines including advanced knowledge of electromagnetics, electric machine design, familiarity with power electronics and motor drive control systems. The candidate would also be responsible for developing verification setup for high voltage systems.
Key Responsibilities
As an Electromagnetic Engineer, you will be responsible to:
- Responsible for electromagnetic analysis, modeling and design of electric machines, electromechanical actuators, and sensors for electric and hybrid vehicle propulsion application.
- Testing and validation of motors and sensors for system requirements.
- Design and implement features targeting loss minimization, utilizing the hardware to its capability and NVH reduction.
- Designs and optimizes simultaneous system performance goals through requirements flow down. Understands and creates system and subsystem specifications.
- Coordinating technical projects pertaining to electric motors and machines with cross-organizational teams.
- Enforcing the technology development process for technical projects from research through to production implementation.
- Calibration, testing and validation of electric motor requirements as well as diagnosing and correcting deficiencies in designs and prototypes.
- Effectively integrates all aspects of a design through multi-disciplinary engineering.
- Stays abreast of new technology and recent developments and trends in the research and academic arena related to electric motor technologies.
- Provides technical leadership for projects incorporating complex electromechanical (mechatronic) systems.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of brushless machines such as Permanent Magnet (PM), Switch Reluctance Motor (SRM), Induction machine (IM), and other magnetic devices.
- Knowledge of electromagnetic finite element analysis, modeling, sizing, and calibration
- Experience with design and analysis of electric machines and sensors specifically related to vehicle systems – including machine design, inverters, and battery systems.
- Strong computer/math skills, and knowledge of simulation tools (Finite Elements and Scripting Languages) is required
- General competency in all core fields (electronics, electromagnetics, electromechanical)
- Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension, and propulsion)
- Excellent problem-solving techniques
- Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques
- Good organization and documentation abilities
- Ability to manage & support multiple activities (time management skills)
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to coordinate and run efficient meetings
- Ability to communicate effectively worldwide
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others across multidisciplinary teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
- Good understanding of motor sensing subsystems (motor position, current measurement etc.)
- Must be able to look at computer screen/monitor for extended periods of time.
Education Requirements
- PhD in Electrical Engineering plus 1 year of professional experience (preferred) with emphasis in Electromagnetic devices such as motors, actuators and sensors. Or Master Degree in EE with at least 5 years on electromagnetic design of electric motors
