R&D Electrical Design Engineer - Clarience Technologies
Pittsburgh, PA 15289
About the Job
Primary Function Summary
The position reports to the Research & Development group, the primary function of the position investigation and development of technologies that have applicable value to technology roadmaps developed for future Clarience Technologies product lines.
The research and investigation would include device compatible hardware to operate in a commercial heavy-duty environment. The device design would require using various communication protocols for the sensory device then broadcasting to a collecting data device that has cellular functionality.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the firmware, thermal, optical, and mechanical engineers as the electrical hardware is being designed to a product definition.
- Incorporates into the electrical designs, considerations for data and messaging, thermal and optical requirements, and/or mechanical specifications of a known industry challenge, safety concerns, or fleet operational in-efficiencies.
- All electrical devices designed will operate in a heavy-duty transportation environment.
- Develops project statements for a technology definition for a specific application that would involve a device revision or a new application technology. May need to work with program/project manager for clear technology definition of the application.
- Works with the specific project manager to determine the available technology matrix and match the application and technology for most cost-effective solution(s).
- Presents ‘proof of concepts’ designs to the team that demonstrates a technology for a given problem definition. Concepts will carry a concept DFMEA identifying the potential failure modes.
- Develops an alpha and beta testing plan for the device hardware.
- Construct a stress testing plan for the electrical hardware during the validation testing in the form of a DVP&R.
- System-level integration experience.
- Design for manufacturing appropriate hardware.
- Experience reading electrical schematics.
- Experience with RTOS/Linux
- Microcontroller at an embedded level programing. Familiarity with C, C++, Python but not required.
- Experience with hardware lab equipment such as oscilloscope digital scope and logic analyzer.
- Technical document writing experience using Visio, Word, Excel, and / or PowerPoint, this person must have the ability to communicate technologies discovered in the form of a white paper. This paper will be used as a technical training document.
- Revision and document control experience
