RSI Enteck, LLC is seeking an experienced, full-time mid- to senior level quantitative groundwater scientist whose primary duties will be to support the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Legacy Management (LM) Support contract in Grand Junction, Colorado. Legacy Management has responsibility for monitoring and remediation of groundwater contamination at multiple sites located throughout the United States. The quantitative groundwater scientist will be assigned to the Groundwater and Geochemistry Group.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
Groundwater and soil contamination evaluations for the Legacy Management sites are performed by the Groundwater and Geochemistry Group, which consists of M.S. and Ph.D. level geologists, hydrologists, engineers and geochemists. The quantitative groundwater scientist position requires strong technical skills related to physical hydrogeology, reactive contaminant transport, geochemistry, vadose zone hydrology, and groundwater flow and reactive transport numerical modeling. Successful candidates are expected to be able to determine project objectives, develop appropriate investigation methods, schedule and complete the work in a timely manner, and deliver a high-quality report at task completion. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills are a primary job requirement. The successful applicant must be able to effectively communicate findings and results to broad audiences including clients, stakeholders, regulators, and the general public at outreach events. Job candidates are expected to be able to work with other group members to produce technically sound and defensible products; peer review and mentoring are important aspects of the job. Occasional travel may be required for the position.
In addition to working with the Groundwater and Geochemistry Group, the Quantitative Groundwater Scientist position will have the opportunity to participate in the LM Applied Studies and Technology (AS&T) program. AS&T studies are designed to support the LM mission through improved understanding of processes that affect remedy protectiveness and performance, including evaluation and application of advancements in technology. Ongoing AS&T studies include; long-term disposal cell cover performance, plume persistence, enhanced natural attenuation, system operations and analysis at remote sites, data mining and project visualization and educational collaborations. AS&T studies are not limited to the ongoing studies; any study related to LM’s mission will be considered for inclusion in the program.
The successful candidate will have a M.S. or Ph.D. in hydrology, geology, engineering or a closely related field and at least four years of applicable professional experience. The candidate must have strong quantitative groundwater skills and demonstrated abilities to solve complex groundwater problems. Preference will be given to individuals having demonstrated numerical groundwater flow and transport modeling experience. In addition to strong technical abilities, the position requires excellent written and verbal communication and client interaction skills. The preferred candidate will be expected to work effectively as part of an integrated team and mentor junior staff. Candidates must be U.S. citizens (or be authorized to work in the U.S.) and have a valid driver license. A minimum of three personal or professional references is required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements (Medium Work):
Sedentary Work Category – The employee must remain is a stationary position 50% of the time. This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. The person in this position frequently communicates with others who have inquiries. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee mostly works inside an office environment but occasionally in the field overseeing subcontractors or taking soil or groundwater samples. Frequently moves documents and objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Must be able to observe and learn technical material and emails.
